Everlane Review: The Cotton Linen V-neck Sweater

Everlane Review Cotton Linen V neck.jpg

Hi guys and it’s been awhile with my Everlane reviews but here’s a fresh new one (I pushed up this new review since I got a lot of interest about this sweater on Insta but the posts after this will be back to those written pre-birth). Since I utterly failed at my one new item per month resolution in March, I just let everything slide and ordered two new items from Everlane in the last week of March (it’s like when you blow your diet so then you eat ALL THE FOOD). But oh it felt so good to scratch my Everlane itch and get this cotton linen v-neck sweater and the mini form bag. And it felt even better when I realized both items were clear winners for me (ah, there’s that Everlane that I know and love)!

First a note on sizing, I got this sweater in a small (my regular Everlane size) and I would say it fits TTS. The sweater is boxy and cropped, which is perfect for my post-pregnancy 5’4” frame (I love that it flows away from the body to hide my remaining belly pooch). It’s also the perfect loose spring/summer sweater to tuck into some high-rise bottoms (I can’t wait until I can fit into my jeans again).

What I really love about this sweater though is the wonderful texture of the linen cotton combo knit. The linen makes it more lightweight and slightly rougher than a 100% cotton sweater. The texture isn’t soft and smooth but I wouldn’t say it’s itchy either. When you compare this to the the Everlane’s soft cotton square crew (reviewed here), this linen cotton version has a looser weave and is a lot lighter in weight. But both have a very similar boxy cropped shape with wide sleeves (except the cotton sweaters are crewnecks while the cotton linen blend sweaters are v-necks). I wore this cotton linen sweater in 73 degree weather and it was the perfect light cover-up and didn’t cause any overheating. The cotton sweater would have definitely been too warm.

My only concern is how this sweater will do over time and with multiple washings. The instructions say to handwash this, which I’m not a fan of doing. But I’d be willing to wash this sweater by hand because I love it that much. I’ll update this review after I wash it and let you know how it fares.

So if you’re looking for a good hot weather cover-up or a sweater for those slightly cooler summer days, I highly recommend this cotton linen blend sweater. And I definitely recommend getting it in this sand color (which is more cream than beige) since the texture will elevate your all neutral look (because you know that’s going to be the trend of the season). I have to say this is one of the better sweaters to come around from Everlane in recent times and I have a feeling it’ll go fast (the crewneck version is already sold out in the smaller sizes).

Has anyone else tried this cotton linen sweater and what did you think?

Everlane Review The Soft Cotton Square Crew

Everlane review soft cotton square crew (4 of 4)-min.jpg

So I’m quite a bit late to the game here on Everlane’s soft cotton square crew since these sweaters were released ages ago. But I usually avoided the square styles since I didn’t think it flattered my petite frame. I’ve always felt like a sail from a sailboat in their square styles. However, I’ve just figured out square shaped sweaters are 1) less sail-like because they drape so nicely and 2) they’re the best friend for pregnant ladies since they don’t cling to the belly.

I purchased this sweater on a whim as a second item to get free shipping, not really expecting much. But while I returned the alpaca sweater (reviewed here), I fell in love with this cotton square crew. So much so that I want to get a second one (but I keep reminding myself more is not always better so I’m going to wait). But right now San Jose is in the mid 60’s and it’s the perfect temperature for these cotton sweaters.

This is the perfect, slightly cropped casual cotton sweater to throw over anything (though I especially like the look when it’s over a more fitted bottom). The cotton quality is awesome and is softer than Everlane’s long sleeve cotton crew (reviewed here). Yet the knit is still pretty tightly woven and doesn’t stretch out much with repeated wear. But I do wonder if it’ll stretch out after washing. I’ll keep you posted on how it wears. The care instructions say to hand wash cold, but I usually put sweaters in a net in the washer and wash on delicate (and lay out to dry). I got this in a small and because of the square shape I find it’s the right size (and I’ll get to wear it post pregnancy in the spring too). As I write this review and all the positives about this sweater I’m really itching to get a second one (probably in black).

Anyway who else has this sweater and loves it?

P.S. Anyone else get the free $20 from Everlane? This makes it even more tempting to buy another one…

P.P.S It looks like Everlane added some things to their Choose What You Pay Sale (and here are some of my current faves on sale), the best of which are the polka dot cupro dress here (and if you prefer a button-down, their polka dot cupro shirt here). I loooooove my polka dot cupro dress in navy, which I reviewed here. I’ve worn it 11 times so far and plan to wear it without the belt and with leggings for the winter! And for those living in the southern hemisphere or somewhere similarly warm, my all time favorite cotton dress from Everlane is also for sale here (though I have the blue and white striped one, and not this red one, which I reviewed here). And if you’re feeling lucky, enter my $50 Everlane gift card giveaway that I posted about yesterday!

Everlane Fisherman Cotton Zip Pullover Review

Finally an Everlane review on something I ended up keeping and loving!  May I present Everlane's Fisherman Cotton Zip Pullover.   One thing you can always say about Everlane's sweaters is that they keep their knits pretty interesting.  Most of the time those interesting shapes don't really work too well with my body (case in point: Everlane's premium ribbed cashmere), but not this fisherman sweater.  I think for the most part it's a pretty standard mockneck sweater, except when it comes to the knit details.  I love the knit lines that extend down the arm and that extends from the mockneck.

Also the zipper adds a fun detail, and I find it useful at times too (like those times I start heating up and a mockneck is just too warm, unzip and now you can get some ventilation through the collar).  The works out perfectly for me since I dislike turtlenecks and sometimes feel constricted even with a mockneck.  Oh, but I should say there are times I find the zipper rubbing against my neck and I feel annoyed so I unzip it.

So far I've been wearing it about 2-3 times a week for the last couple weeks and there's no pilling or excessive stretching out.  Just to note I ordered this in my normal Everlane size of small (I'm usually a size 4 on top).  If you're looking for something a little more classic from Everlane, than this cotton fisherman sweater is the perfect spring time transition piece.

Everlane Ribbed Wool Cashmere Crew Sweater Review

I wasn't planning on buying another sweater from Everlane since I already have 4 of their cashmere sweaters (actually I'm selling one so make that 3).  Plus I figured 100% cashmere would be better than a cashmere wool blend sweater (in my head wool= itchy).  But since Everlane made the effort to make a whole line of ribbed wool cashmere sweaters it would behoove me to at least give it a try (and get a review out of it).  Well not only did I end up not sending this sweater back but I've been wearing this on repeat ever since I've first tried it on.

First of all this sweater is 92% wool and 8% cashmere so really it's a wool sweater.  So it feels like a wool sweater.  Yes, there's a bit of itch but really it's quite minimal.  But if you're expecting anything like the smooth, soft, irritation-free feel of cashmere you will be disappointed.  Since I always wear a shirt under my sweaters, I don't really feel the itch and it doesn't bother me.  Merino wool is not as warm as cashmere, but since this is a fairly thick sweater it will definitely keep you warm.  I've been wearing this when the weather's in the low 60s and it's been perfect.

What I love best about this sweater is the details in the design that make it different.  I love the side slits and the fact that it's fully ribbed in the front and partially ribbed in the back.  Because of the side slits, this sweater might look best with high-waisted jeans, like the ones the Everlane model wears.  But I just wear it with my regular jeans and tuck in whatever shirt I'm wearing. I also like that if I'm wearing a cool belt, you can see it peeking through the side slits of the sweater.

Wearing: Everlane sweater, Celine sunglassesHomako necklace, Frame denim, M.Gemi Felize loafers (yes my second pair, I love them so much!  Here's my original review of them), and my new Good West Co. tote purchased from West Coast Craft.

I ordered this in a small and the fit was perfect (for reference I'm 5'4" and usually a size 4 on top).  I actually like this sweater so much I'm tempted to get their ribbed wool cashmere cropped v-neck (I feel like it has the same "cool girl" vibe as this sweater, lol).  But I'll hold off since 1) that means I'll have 5 sweaters and that's getting to be excessive and 2) well I already ordered the premium ribbed cashmere crew (but really this is meant for review-purposes only, though I'm afraid I'm going to want to keep it).  Anyways you can check out Everlane's whole line of ribbed wool cashmere sweaters here and all my other Everlane reviews here.

Everlane Sweater and Silk Shirt Review {updated March 2017}

{update 3.2.17: As some of my friends (ok just one friend, hi Tiff! lol) call me Ms. Everlane Guru, I have amassed 50 (maybe 60?) reviews of Everlane items that can be found here sorted by clothing type, or here sorted by my favorites->least favorite}

So this is part 2 of my Everlane clothing review.  Part 1 was the Everlane tee shirt review and before that, I reviewed the Everlane Petra Magazine Tote.  I also have the Everlane Modern Loafer and I the Everlane Street Shoe on the way so I'll be doing reviews about their shoes next.  What can I say, I'm semi-obsessed with their stuff.  But I promise that's it...until I buy anything else from them (though looking at what's coming, I'm a bit iffy about Everlane's next releases).  Hopefully this review will help you figure out your Everlane sizing.

Like the tee shirt review, I'll be listing what I have, a quick note about quality, and what size I wear (I'm usually a size 4 or small on top, size 2 at places like GAP or sometimes Jcrew){note: I like my sweaters on the looser side, so if you are fit and like them fitted I say size down}:

- My first sweater and all-time favorite item from Everlane, is their seed-stitch sweater.  Unfortunately it's no longer being sold, but I would say the closest cousin is the Cotton Crew Neck Sweater.  But the weaves are different and it looks like the Cotton Crew might stretch out a bit {but I don't really know since I've never tried it}.  My black seed-stitch sweater is pictured below.  It's the perfect weight for a layered look during the summer in San Francisco (which as I type this post is a very cool 58 degrees).  I got it in a small, and it's still over-sized, but it's perfect for wearing over a collared shirt for a preppy look.  I've washed this numerous times and it stayed perfectly in shape.  I really hope Everlane brings back this sweater!

- My next purchase was the Everlane Short-Sleeved Sweatshirt (pictured in navy on the model in the top picture).  I purchased it in black and in a small.  The fit, again, is oversized but I think it works well with the look (as long as you're wearing skinny jeans).  The quality is again excellent, with a heavy cotton weight.  I don't wear it as often as I'd like because it's hard to find the right temperature for a sweatshirt but also short sleeves, but I still love the look.

- I also have the Everlane Crew Sweatshirt in Grey Marled (pictured on the model on the right).  I got this in an XS, but wish I had gotten it in the S.  It comes up a bit short around the waist on the XS size, but the fit is boxy.  I think if it's going to be an oversized fit, then it would look better longer than too short.  Quality is also great and I would say the price is reasonable for $40.

-The last sweater I bought was the Everlane French Terry sweater in both cool grey and heather brick.  I bought the heather brick in XS, but it was too snug and I didn't like the color.  So I tried again with the French Terry in grey size small.  But unfortunately I don't really like that one either though the fit was a little better.  The material is wonderfully soft so I could still wear it as loungewear during the winter, however the way the sweater falls on the body is not flattering unless you're literally a model {specifically, if you have any hint of a muffin top, the bottom hem of the sweater kind of clings to it--ick not flattering at all}.  Also the maintenance of washing by hand is just not for me (it's made of polyester, rayon and spandex).

For other peoples' take on Everlane's sweaters: Review of their cashmere sweater, and another one about cashmere, and a review of their crew sweatshirt

I also have Everlane's silk sleeveless blouse in black (on the model on the the left in the picture above).  It's the only silk thing I own from Everlane.  I think the quality of the silk is great; it's feels pretty thick and durable.  It's not cheap for $60 but worth it.  {When writing this post I just took a look at the item on their website, and who knew it only costs $27 to actually produce this item (and $33 for long sleeves).  Just think about the mark-up at places like Equipment, which sells silk shirts for at least $200.}  I bought a size small and it fits perfectly.  I'm eyeing the modern point silk shirt and might do another separate review of their silks if I get that one as well.

For my other Everlane reviews (on shoes, shirts, and their Petra tote) the links are listed on the right if you're on a computer, or scroll to the bottom if you're on your phone (all reviews are done with items I've purchased for myself and are not sponsored, but if you'd like to help me purchase more items to review, my referral link is here, Thanks!).
