Everlane's Choose What You Pay Sale

Everlane has added some new item to their CWYP sale and there are some items on there that are too good not to mention. If you’ve been eyeing any of these things from my reviews, this is a good time to buy (especially since these old stock items weren’t tariffed the way the new items are now plus they’re on discount).

The Boss Mules (reviewed here): I still love ‘em and wear them constantly (in fact I just wore them in my last Linenfox review). And just in time for the season: I call them my witch shoes. They’re great for elongating the leg since they’re so pointy.

The Cotton Collarless Shirtdress (reviewed here): This is the 2017 version and one of my most favorite dresses from Everlane. It’s great for petite gals since it’s short and can be belted at your natural waist.

The Cotton Weave Collarless Shirtdress (reviewed here): This is the 2019 version which I love for the slightly puffed 3/4 sleeves. I’ve also worn this as a duster inspired by the much more expensive shirtdress from Hackwith Design. Again this is best for petite women since it’s short. For taller girls, the cotton weave picnic dress is a nice option (and it’s also on sale).

The Linen Pants (reviewed here): A great affordable pair of linen straight leg pants got even cheaper. I kind of wish I had waited for these prices before purchasing mine. These have a drawstring waist so it feels like you’re wearing linen PJs, but the black color make them look appropriate for wearing in public.

The Renew Lightweight Puffer (reviewed here): I love my Renew Puffer and wear it constantly. It’s the perfect layer for misty morning or cold California winter days. They also have other styles for sale including the Renew half-zip puffer.

Cashmere sweaters (reviewed here): And if you love cashmere but don’t want to spend too much, Everlane’s CWYP cashmere is such a great deal. If you can, I would recommend purchasing cashmere pieces that were originally more than $100. I just don’t find their $100 cashmere to be of that great quality. I love Everlane’s textured cashmere and this rib mockneck version looks dreamy.

Anyway for those who are interested in Everlane, I highly recommend these items!

Everlane Review: The Texture Cotton Crop Cardigan {Updated October 2020}

When Everlane came out with their texture cotton crop cardigan (aka the babaa dupe) last year, I have to admit I was put off by the 27% nylon content of the yarn they used for this knit (vs. the 100% cotton weave of the babaa). But now I have to get off my high-horse and admit I was wrong for looking down on this dupe because it’s a pretty great sweater.

First of all, I do feel Everlane wades into some shady waters when it copies the design of smaller ethical and more expensive brands. Call it the Zara-move if you will. But at the same time, I could never really pull the trigger on a babaa cardigan (even when they had their sale in July). And as much as some of us love to support small brands, we can’t always spend that kind of dough. I actually was lucky enough to try the babaa cardigan in person at West Coast Craft and I didn’t love it enough to spend $250+ on it. So when Everlane offered me something free to review, I succumbed to temptation and asked to try this cardigan. And I have to say I love the way it fits more than the babaa version, and maybe it’s because of the nylon. The Everlane sweater overall feels less bulky and I appreciate the stretch it has over the babaa one.

And as much as I prefer an all-natural fiber and no plastic in my clothing, there are advantages to plastic. Not only does the nylon make the sweater stretchier and lighter but it helps retain the shape of the sweater. I’ve decided to take the “treat plastic like gold” disposition with this sweater and treasure it as if it did cost $250.

Anyway I’m wearing a size small here and feel like it’s the perfect fit for 5’4” me. I find the sleeves a bit long so I need to roll them up. I really love the drop shoulder detail and the overall cropped fit. I can’t wait to wear this cardigan more in the fall and style them with other outfits. I have a feeling this cardigan is going to be a staple in my wardrobe!

{October 2020 Update: So after having this sweater for over a year, I have to say that sadly it isn’t as great as I first thought it was. My main issue with it is that once the sweater snags the nylon fibers, the fibers break super easily and you’re left with a stringy mess. It can’t be pulled back in so I end up having to cut the fibers to clean up the look. After admiring the babaa cardigan for so long (2.5 years!) I finally purchased it and now understand why there’s such a cult following for babaa. I have to admit it was idealistic of me to think I could treat plastic like gold and think it would work out. Sometimes the original thing is better than a substitute. But I also understand if the original is not within your budget, then yes maybe treating the dupe like the original might work—but only if you’re careful with your sweaters. And sadly I am not.}

Everlane Review: The Cotton Weave Collarless Shirtdress and Picnic Dress

I love Everlane’s Cotton Collarless Belted Shirtdress from 2 years ago (reviewed here). It’s one of my most favorite dresses from Everlane, but haven’t worn it lately due to some added baby weight (which makes the dress come up quite short when belted) So I was super excited to see a new version of their collarless shirtdress for 2019 in a new cotton weave fabric and with longer sleeves! Since I wasn’t offered any free items from Everlane in June (probably because I haven’t been keeping up with timely reviews lol) I purchased this myself with some referral credit (thank you to all those who supported me by using my referral link). I actually prefer being able to review items this way since I feel it makes the review a tad more objective, plus I tend to love the items I purchase myself more (like the Everlane mini form bag and the cotton linen v-neck). Oh, and since I wanted the free shipping, I decided to try out Everlane’s Cotton Weave Picnic Dress as well.

So what did I think of Everlane’s new summer dresses?

I actually love both styles and ended up keeping both!

The Cotton Weave Collarless Shirt Dress

First of all, I really love the new cotton weave fabric that they’re using for this year’s collarless shirt dress. It’s super soft and yet feels durable. The cotton weave has a texture that’s almost like a lightweight corduroy. I think this fabric is less prone to wrinkles than the cotton poplin they used for their first collarless dress. The sizing is similar to their old dress though this year’s version is a tiny bit longer (I got a size 4). But it’s still a tad short on me when I raise my arms (see pic) and I’m 5’4” (and even if you get a larger size, the length only increases marginally).

So if you’re quite a bit taller, this dress might be too short for comfort. At first I was thinking of returning the dress because of this, but I decided to keep it because 1) I don’t know if there would be many situations where I need to raise my arms in this dress (and if there is, I’ll just be careful) but also because 2) I saw this ad campaign for Hackwith Design House’s button-up jacket dress.

The Everlane dress looks similar enough and since I didn’t want to spend $205, I decided to try this collarless shirtdress as both a dress and a duster. And I like it. I plan to try more combos of this dress as a duster, but I like the versatility of having it work as both a dress and a lightweight duster. Oh and they added a belt loop to this year’s dress which is great because I lost the belt of my 2017 collarless shirtdress since there was no belt loop. A small but convenient improvement.

The Cotton Weave Picnic Dress

I originally ordered this cotton weave picnic dress with the intention of trying it on, disliking it, and then returning it. And tbh ordered it as my second item so I could get free shipping. But when I tried it on, I didn’t hate it. I was a little iffy about it, but with the encouragement of those on my Insta stories, I decided to keep it. I like the longer midi length of this on me. At first I thought it might be too long, but I think it’s fine (and looks great especially with some low heels like the Everlane Day Heels I’m wearing).

I ordered this in a size 6 because I’ve noticed with Everlane’s “picnic” style tops and dresses, the chest circumference is a bit tight on me in my normal Everlane size of 4. At size 6, it’s just right so there’s no pinching of the underarm fat. Also the backside is elastic so that makes the chest area slightly more forgiving and it makes it easier to put on/take off this dress. The buttons that run along the front are fake and you can’t actually button/unbutton this dress. That makes this dress very breastfeeding UN-friendly but at the same time, you won’t have any gaping holes between the buttons. There’s a side zip to help make putting on/taking off this dress easier. I do like that this dress is slightly form fitting so that it looks great even without the tie. I look forward to wearing this dress more once I stop breastfeeding. Also I plan to wear this dress with a white shirt underneath if the weather is on the cool side.

So I had only planned on keeping one dress (the collarless shirtdress) when I bought them, and then planned on keeping just the picnic dress when I tried them on. But ended up keeping both to work with my wardrobe lol. Hope you see these dresses in heavy rotation as the summer wears on!

Everlane Review: The Day Tote Mini

I was very lucky to be asked again this month if I wanted anything from Everlane’s line sheet as an affiliate. And you bet I zoomed in on their Day Tote Mini. Their regular Day Tote is an all time favorite (the most used bag in my closet, which I wrote about here), so I was super excited to try out the mini version since I’m all about smaller bags now (that I can hang off the stroller bar). So even if I wasn’t gifted this awesome bag, I would have most definitely purchased it myself to try it out.

I love the Day Tote Mini because it reminds me of the Celine small vertical cabas, which I always wanted and was *this close* to buying once. But in the end I decided not to because it seemed too plain of a bag to spend over a $1200 for. So I was super excited to see the Day Tote Mini on Everlane’s Coming Soon page and couldn’t wait to take it for a spin. And after having tried it out for a bit, I like this Day Tote Mini a lot. It might actually be a bit better than the Celine small vertical cabas because it’s not as big or as tall. So I can keep things upright and organized (while I could see things getting lost at the bottom of the Celine cabas). Also the shorter bag works well for my petite frame.

The leather of the Day Tote Mini is the same sturdy but lightweight leather that I’ve come to know and love on the regular Day Tote. I like that this tote can stand up on it’s own and doesn’t slouch over like a lot of other totes (however I should note, if you’re not careful how you pack the regular Day Tote, you can distort the leather so it ends up looking wonky like mine did). But I don’t really foresee that same problem with this mini tote since it’s so small, you can’t really overstuff it with heavy items that will bend it out of shape. Oh and I accidentally poured hot water all over this bag and it was completely fine. Just wiped off the water and it was as good as new (no water spots!).

This Day Tote Mini fits all the essentials and then some. I like that I can fit a baby’s bottle upright in there if I need to. So you could probably fit a small water bottle if needed. You could also fit a book or kindle in there. I also love that I can fit things like my sunglass case and sunblock vertically so everything is easy to find. There’s one flat pocket inside that fits my keys and lip balm.

The crossbody strap is adjustable or you can remove it completely which is a nice feature to have. These days since I hang my bag on the stroller I like to have to the option to remove the crossbody strap. For this bag, I remove one side but leave the other side attached just in case I need to quickly throw it over my shoulder. Oh, and the holes where the crossbody strap loops through are reinforced so you don’t have to worry about that area getting worn out if you end up carrying heavy items in your bag.

The only drawback to this bag is that there is no closure so if you’re in a crowded place, you’re going to either want to hold the bag in your hands or have at least one hand over it when wearing it over your shoulder. And if you have a lot of things in your bag, you definitely want to do this since it will gape open when stuffed. If your bag isn’t as stuffed then the handles will kind of come together when slung over your hip so it’s not too open.

I was actually really tempted to get the taupe color above but I played it safe and got black. Since the leather feels similar to the leather of my Everlane mini form bag (and they’re made in the same factory), I don’t think the lighter colors will have issues with color transfer from jeans or getting marked up easily (though I don’t know for sure). But I do like that the black looks classic and it goes with this year’s “summer witch” theme lol. But I’m pretty disappointed with the pale yellow color they have for the third option. A light gray would have been more versatile.

Anyway I put together this review a little early since it was requested by a reader. And I’ll update it to let you know how the bag wears over time! But I hope I’ll be writing a 100 days wear post about this bag (like I did for the regular Day Tote) by the end of the year!

Everlane Review: The Easy Chino Shorts and Giveaway {Closed}

Everlane’s Easy Chinos (reviewed here) was one my most worn Everlane items last year and one of my most worn items overall (#13 in fact). Couple that with the fact that I no longer fit into any of my shorts from pre-pregnancy (all of which were jean shorts), and I was suuuuuuper excited when Everlane revealed their Easy Chino Shorts. I was so excited that I bought two right off the bat because I had very high hopes that they would be exactly what I needed. So what did I think? Did they live up to my hopes and dreams (lol, ok I know that’s overkill when we’re talking about shorts, but really good and affordable shorts are hard to find when you’re pear shaped).

The verdict: They’re uhhhmmaaaazing. Haha, okay well maybe that’s an overstatement, but I really am very excited about these shorts and how they fit. First a note on sizing: I ordered them in a 6 because of my post-pregnancy pooch and overall weight gain. If you’ve been a long time reader and we have similar sizing, then I think a 4 would work for you (that’s the size I wear in the regular Easy Chino pants). I probably could have fit into a 4 since I still fit into the size 4 Easy Chino pants I have now, but I wanted to have that extra bit of space around the hips and rise for these shorts. Also with long term wear and multiple washings the elastic does loosen up a bit and the material in general gets softer and relaxed (that’s why I still fit into my old size 4 pants).

I love these shorts since they’re basically the short version of the long pants I already know and love. Thus I already have a bunch of outfit combos that I know would work with these shorts. The fabric is soft and pretty wrinkle resistant. I usually just wash the pants in the machine but make sure to take them out and shake out/smooth the wrinkles before putting it in the dryer. And I love that these are more age appropriate shorts for mid-thirties-me than my short ripped jean shorts. They kind of remind me of the Elizabeth Suzann Florence shorts but a tad wider in the leg, lower in rise, made of cotton, with pockets, and with a much lower price point.

The only drawback to these shorts is that the black ones pick up and show dog hair and lint like a mofo. Oh and the inseam of these pants don’t change between sizes. It’s a constant 3.5” across all sizes so I’m not sure how well the fit will be in the larger sizes (you would think the inseam would vary with size).

Everlane Review: The Linen Pant

There was little to no fanfare when Everlane released these pants (it wasn’t even on their coming soon page), so it might have slipped under the radar for some. But being the Everlane addict that I am, I check their new releases page every once in awhile and I noticed these linen pants. Since I’m always on the lookout for good linen pants, I thought I might give these a try with some credit I had earned (thanks to everyone who clicked my referral link). And well, I’m glad I did try them because I really love ‘em!

First a note on sizing: I’m usually a size 4 on top and 6 on the bottom for Everlane. But lately due to body changes because of pregnancy and then giving birth, I’m a bit all over the place when it comes to sizing (like I tried Everlane’ straight leg crop in my usual size 6 and it didn’t fit). But I got these in a size 6 and found that it did fit, mostly because of a really forgiving elastic and drawstring waistband.

As you can see the pants hit right at the top of my foot, which is the perfect length for me (I’m 5’4”). On the models on the Everlane site these pants are cropped and hit above the ankle. I don’t mind the full length on me since this is a straight fit.

I love these pants because even though they feel like PJs with the elastic and drawstring waistband, they look pretty polished. They’re just wide enough at the hips and legs, so there’s no pulling, but not so wide that it makes me look short. The linen quality is lightweight, but in a pair of black pants that’s perfect since it’s nice and breezy. You can see how Everlane linen stacks up against other (mostly slow) brands I’ve tried here.

Sorry it took so long to get this review up, so there aren’t that many sizes left in black. The blue indigo color might work for some (probably best paired with white or another light color on top), but I would probably stay away from the white. If it’s anything like my other linen shirt made in the Shenzhen factory, it’s going to be slightly sheer.

Everlane Review: The Day Crossover Sandal

I’m a pretty big fan of Everlane’s Day line, from the Day Market bag (my most used bag) to the Day Heel Mule (my favorite heel). So when I saw the Day Crossover Sandal, I knew I had to give it a try*. And it did not disappoint! This might be my next favorite sandal from Everlane (and believe me, I tried quite a few from them—almost one a year). My first favorite sandal being the long gone Street Sandal from their early years.

First a note on sizing, I got my usual Everlane size 8 and it worked perfectly. For those of you guys who have trouble with Everlane sizing, it’s all about paying attention to the factory where the shoes are made. Since each factory will have slightly different lasts (the foot mold that the shoes are made with), the sizing varies by production factory. For example, I know my “usual Everlane size 8” works best with the Montopoli in Val D’Arno factory in Italy (they made the Day Heel and Day Heel Mule) since they’re lasts are a tad wider in the front of the foot. But the lasts from their other Italian shoe factory, Santa Maria A Monte (they make the Day Glove and all the Slingbacks) are a tad longer and narrow and doesn’t usually work in my usual Everlane size 8. It’s a bit of a pain to do the extra research before purchasing, but I think that’s what happens when the brand is on the small side and has various production factories. But on the plus side, at least Everlane is transparent enough that you can do this extra bit of research and be a slightly better informed customer.

Anyway back to the sandal. The Day Crossover Sandal is an absolute dream of a leather sandal. The crossover leather is super soft and molds to your feet, so it’s perfect for slightly wide feet like mine. There’s no chafing of any kind because of the double folded leather. The sole is made of that rubbery material they like to use (the same one that’s on the Day Glove) so it’s non-slip (however unfortunately not super eco-friendly). Also the sole is not too heavy and for me it doesn’t make that slipper slapping sounds (though I’m more of a heel dragger myself). This really is the perfect chic summer sandal and feels way more expensive than $88.

But I do have to add that there is zero cushioning on the sole, so if you can’t handle a hard surface (due to flat feet or plantar fasciitis) then this shoe is not for you.

I haven’t walked miles and miles in them so I can’t attest to how they will wear (I do have one concern that the soft leather might stretch out and I’ll update this review with that bit of info if they do). But I can see this being my nice sandal for the summer for backyard BBQs and casual dinners out. It’s certainly an upgrade from my Everlane street sandals, which have definitely seen better days.

P.S. Everlane is having their big summer sale right now (what they call Choose What You Pay) though the only thing that I love that’s on there currently are their Boss Mules. I love my black pair (reviewed here) and I wish they still had the bone patent leather ones still in my size (dang it, I knew I should have purchased the bone patent ones when they first came out). Everything else is just eh or very out of season.

Everlane Review: The Linen Picnic Top

I received this top from Everlane about a month ago but due to the weather (it’s been rainy and a bit cold) and a newborn sucking all my time/energy, I haven’t really had a chance to take it out for a spin. But I finally wore it a couple times this week so here’s the review! But I should also mention that I ordered this in my usual Everlane size of 4, but due to changes in my body (specifically my boobs) this top feels a smidge too small across the chest. So I can only guess that the sizing is TTS since my sizing has changed, but I can’t say for sure. Note: a size 4 has 35in chest circumference, while a size 6 is 36in.

So as much as I love Everlane, I hafta say that I haven’t been super excited about their new releases lately. None of it seems to fit my lifestyle maybe, or I might be getting over Everlane in general (*gasp* that seems like heresy coming from an Everlane addict like myself). But the one thing that caught my eye in April was this Linen Picnic Top. I wouldn’t necessarily go on a picnic in it, but I see how they came up with the name (it’s cute!).

It originally caught my eye because I thought I might be able to nurse in it (buttons in the front=breastfeeding friendly). But the buttons are hard to unbutton so they’re really there for the looks only. The straps are not adjustable (unlike their linen jumpsuit) so you’re kind of stuck with their standard lengths. But the straps are wide enough to hide bra straps so you can wear a regular bra with this top. For the size 4, I find that the straps are the perfect length (though like I said above, the top is a bit tight right around the chest area). This top probably works best for those with smaller chests in general.

As for the linen quality, it’s good for the price: not too rough and not too thin. I would say it’s just a smidge below midweight linen. You can see how Everlane linen stacks up against the linen from other brands. Also don’t be fooled by how smooth Everlane’s linen is when you first get it (it’s extra smooth). Once you wash it a couple times it will roughen up a bit, but not overly so. But I would say for the price you’re paying, Everlane’s linen is a good value (unless you’re willing to wait over a month for something custom from Lithuania—see the link above for more details).

Also I didn’t get their linen jumpsuit, but I made a similar look with this top and Everlane’s linen pants (which I loooove, but I’ll do a full review of that later).

Everlane Review: The Mini Form Bag

After I reviewed the regular Form Bag from Everlane (here), Everlane released the mini form bag as a special invitation only limited release. Something about them trying to make it exclusive turned me off though. So I made it a point not to give it a second glance. But when they came out with a general release of them in new colors this spring, the Mini Form Bag in Bone caught my eye. I don’t normally buy light colored leather bags because I’m careless with my purses (they’re meant to be used right?). But knowing how hardy the leather on the regular Form Bag is I decided to give it a shot. And I’m so glad that I did! This bag has turned out to be one of the best small crossbody bags I’ve ever bought.

So just like the regular Form bag, the mini has a magnetic closure at the top, which makes getting into and out of the bag super easy. When it’s open, I can see everything in there in just a glance. This works great when you have just the right amount of stuff or less. But if you overstuff it, then the magnetic closure doesn’t close (which can be kind of annoying because it gapes wide open and now strangers can easily see all that’s in there too). But for me, this just means I have to make sure I carry only the essentials (phone, wallet, keys, some lip balms, small hand cream, and my sunglasses). Also for the most part when I carry all that, I have to make sure they’re arranged in a relatively neat manner (I can’t just throw things in willy nilly). So if you like carrying a lot of stuff, this bag is definitely not for you. But in exchange for sticking with just the essentials, you get a small sleek bag that tucks easily under your arm. And this also means the load you’re carrying is always light!

Like the regular form bag the strap is made of canvas, which I know some of you don’t care for since it makes the bag look cheaper. But in terms of functionality it’s awesome since it makes carrying the bag across the body super comfortable. Plus you can adjust the strap to the exact length that you want.

Inside, there’s one small flat pocket, which I thought was pretty useless when I first got the bag. But now I stash my coupons in there (because ya know, FIRE) and it’s great because everytime I open the bag I see them. So I haven’t forgotten to use a coupon since using this bag (I used to forget all the time since I’m not in the habit of clipping coupons).

And like I mentioned up top, the Italian leather that these bags are made out of are super durable and scratch resistant. I don’t baby my bags at all so I very rarely buy a super expensive bag in a light color. But these Everlane form bags are made out of a smooth and thick leather. Also with light colored bags, you want to be careful of color transfer, but I’ve had no issues with that with this one.

Seriously, if you guys are looking for a great light colored bag for spring, this Everlane mini form bag should be a contender! I can’t wait to rock this bag with my all neutral #stickofbutter looks this spring (lol if you don’t know what I’m talking about, refer to Andrea’s post here).
