Everlane Try-On: The Cashmere V-Neck Midi Dress

Everlane Review Cashmere Sweater Dress

First of all, I just want to say please excuse the quality of the photos in this post. I had just gotten out of the hospital and was preparing for a big move so I didn’t really have time to style photos or even do makeup (thus the headless shots). I hope to be getting back to better quality photos soon. Anyway I had ordered this cashmere V-neck midi dress from Everlane back in November because I wanted a warm and stretchy dress. I sized up to a medium to accommodate the growing bump but I feel like I could have gotten away with the small (it just would have been more form fitting). Also because of the bump the midi length gets shortened a little to be just below the knees for me, which I think is a good length for this kind of dress. Without the bump, the dress would probably be more of a true midi length and thus make my legs look stumpier without heels (though the pointed flats of my favorite Everlane Boss Mules helps lengthen the leg a little).

Everlane Review Cashmere Sweater Dress
Everlane Review Cashmere Sweater Dress

So why is this post just a try-on and why didn’t I keep it? In the end I decided that the size was a tad too large and I wasn’t sure I would wear it post pregnancy. Also a dress like this has very limited layering options and it’s just too warm for California winters. If I got overheated in this I would just have to grin and bear it. So as much as I love the look and feel of this sweater dress, the prudent thing to do (especially if I’m trying to keep my closet minimal this year) was to send it back. This might be better for those who have to brave snowy winters and frigid temperatures.

Anyway that’s the last Everlane review for awhile since I’m on my one-purchase-a-month resolution now. But I still have some other reviews left from my last December purchases. Also moving away from the clothes-reviewing-posts has helped me come up with some future posts that I think you’ll find interesting and helpful (I hope), so stay tuned for those!

Everlane Try On: The Soft Wool Rib Crew Sweater

Everlane Review The Soft Wool Rib Crew.jpg

So I ordered this Soft Wool Rib Crew and another Everlane sweater before I decided to cool it with the reviews of new items, and you know how slow shipping can be so I just got them. And well since they’re here I might as well try them out and let you know what I think right?

So I initially fell in love with the sweater because of the white and black marl pattern. I’m such a sucker for that look, and I thought that the side slits up the front were an interesting detail. Buuuuttt…

IMG_6854-min.JPG
IMG_6855-min.JPG

Ok so I know the preggo belly does not help here and in fact the slits seem to make it worse. But is it no wonder that the Everlane styles the sweater tucked into the pants in the first picture on their site? But yes the sweaters is doing me zero favors here and you guys agreed:

IMG_6859-min.jpg

Oh and I got my regular size small here and being pregnant I probably should be wearing at least a medium. On the plus side, the soft wool (which is 100% wool) was indeed soft and not itchy at all. Of course it’s no cashmere and for $15 more I would definitely choose their waffle knit cashmere (still my absolute favorite) over this sweater. Ah well I have enough sweaters as it is and I probably should be buying too many clothes when pregnant in hopes of wearing it later, so back this went!

Everlane Review: The Wool Academy Blazer

Everlane Review The Wool Academy Blazer (1 of 6)-min.jpg

*I was gifted this item by Everlane to review so this is a type of sponsored post though all opinions are my own.

Last year when Everlane first came out with their Oversized Blazer I was reluctant to review it at first because I used to be a blazer person when I worked in an office, but knew I was no longer a blazer person because I work at a garage. I did eventually review it here, so take a look if you’re interested in getting the Oversized Blazer this year (I’m pretty sure it’s the same one). And TL;DR of that review: the blazer is super oversized so even though I’m usually a size 4 in Everlane, the size 0 was a good fit for me even though it was still a bit long from my 5’4” frame. In the end I returned that blazer because it just wasn’t working for me.

But when I saw that this year that Everlane came out with a shorter blazer that they’re calling the Wool Academy Blazer, I really wanted to give it a spin even though I still work in a garage. But I felt like Everlane read my review last year and gave us a blazer option for us short gals. So I wanted to give it a shot. And you know what? It’s now my new favorite blazer and outerwear option for autumn.

{Wearing: Everlane Wool Academy Blazer, Splendid cotton dress (thrifted, similar here), Everlane Boss Mules (reviewed here), Celine Soft Cube bag (similar here, reviewed here)}

Maybe I love a blazer even more this year because it hides the preggo belly somewhat or at least makes me feel more put together despite wearing loose clothing. Anyway I’m wearing a size 4 here and I find that it’s the perfect fit in both my arms, shoulders and length. So I would say it runs true to size, especially if you’re on the petite side.

The material is 62% wool and 38% nylon and it’s a nice weight without being too heavy (perfect for cooler Californian days). The inside is lined so there’s no itchiness. And I love the mini check pattern for adding some interest though still being quite subtle.

Even though I won’t be able to button the front at all very soon, I look forward to wearing this over all my outfits as a light coat until winter hits. It’s the perfect addition to add some prep to my step :)

P.S. For those of you feeling tired of the sponsored content on this blog, I feel you. As much as I appreciate Everlane’s occasional sponsorship, I’m starting to feel a bit “sponsored-out” so I’m going to cool it for the next couple of months and review my usual unsponsored items. I’m also in general going to cool it on reviews because I’m also feeling like I’ve been acquiring a bit too much these days (especially when it comes to clothes). So I hope you guys enjoy posts about matters other than clothes!

Also I’ll be skipping out on Friday posts for the next couple of weeks since I’m trying to put in more time on writing about other things (gotta admit reviews are easy but coming up with other interesting things to talk about is not as easy).

Everlane Review The Kick Crop Jeans

Everlane Review The Kick Crop Jeans (3 of 3)-min.jpg

When it comes to Everlane bottoms, I feel like quite the Goldilocks.  I have tried many many pants and jeans from them and have yet to keep one long term (the only one I committed to was the Wide Leg Crop pants, which I ended up selling several months later).  I have also tried every variation of their sustainable denim with no success.  So I would love to say that I've finally found my pair of Everlane pants, but sadly no I did not end up keeping this one either.  But I've finally figured out why because TBH, these kick crop jeans are probably the closest pair of ideal jeans I've ever tried from Everlane.  But the reason Everlane jeans don't work for me is the rise.  I have realized I'm just not a high-rise jeans person, I'm a mid-rise jeans person (and I will only tolerate high-rise pants if they have elastic waistbands like Elizabeth Suzann's Clyde Pants).  When I wear high-rise pants, I'm tempted to undo the button every time I sit down, much like men un-button their blazer button when they sit (if only this was acceptable for us to do, lol).

Too bad too since I really like the look of these jeans:

{Wearing: Everlane old cropped cashmere (similar here), Everlane Kick Crop jeans, Everlane Day Heel Mules (review coming soon), Polene numero un bag (review coming soon)}

The jeans run TTS and are a great option for those with short legs since you can cut the hems yourself to your desired length.  And I think even if you cut off an inch or two it doesn't change the flare of the jeans too much (here I'm just folding up the hem to my ideal length).  I also really love this classic blue jean color and found that this is a lot softer than the all black denim I tried in the mid-rise skinny reviewed here (those jeans didn't do it for me since I'm abstaining from buying more skinny jeans at the moment).

{And oops a note on sizing since I forgot but Joy was so good to remind me in the comments!  So I'm usually a size 4-6, and have been getting Everlane jeans in 28 (except for the modern boyfriends where I sized down like a lot of folks).}

Anyway if you're a petite person looking for a good pair of high-rise pants, these jeans are definitely worth a try.  Has anyone else tried the new kick crop and what did you think?

P.S. Here's another review of the kick crop from one of my favorite Aussie bloggers!

Everlane Review The Oversized Blazer

Everlane Review The Oversized Blazer.jpg

Hi guys, so some of you have asked about Everlane's oversized blazer, and I apologize for how long it took me to finally get this review up (it was a combo of Everlane's shipping time + the backlog of other reviews I had on my list).  But luckily it's still available so for those of you who are still interested, you can still snag it online.

So back when I was working a 9-5 job as a clinical study coordinator, I was actually known as the blazer girl.  My concept of 'professional' equated to blazers, so I basically wore one every day of the week.  I had about 10 blazers to rotate from, mostly from Zara with a couple Helmut Lang ones thrown in.  When I quit that job to do this Airstream biz, I got rid of all my blazers except one from Helmut Lang like this one (which you never see me wear because I never wear blazers anymore).  So I was a tad reluctant to even try this blazer since I know I don't wear them anymore.  But since I got several requests, I thought I would give it a shot.

When I first got it, I did a little poll and you guys were divided about it:

IMG_4151-min.PNG

(sorry for the blurry pic)

Here's a much better picture of it:

Everlane Review The Oversized Blazer (1 of 2)-min.jpg
Everlane Review The Oversized Blazer (2 of 2)-min.jpg

{Wearing: Everlane Oversized Blazer, Grana Pima tee, Grana distressed cropped jeans, Everlane Day Heels, and Saint Laurent Monogramme Sac Universite bag}

Please excuse the hideously oversized jeans I'm wearing, and I know I could have styled these better with skinny or straight legged jeans.  Anyway I actually really liked the blazer.  The blazer is made from a really high quality wool, while the inside polyester lining keeps it from being itchy.  The blazer had a good weight to it and actually feels more expensive than its $150 price tag.  The gray herringbone is very much on-trend for the season.

Now a very important note about sizing.  After discussing the sizing of this blazer with reader Ashley, I knew that the fit was super super oversized.  So I went down 2 sizes from my usual Everlane size (I'm usually a 4 and went down to a 0 here)!  And I think it actually worked out.  It was a smidge snug around the shoulders (I wouldn't be able to layer a sweater underneath this), but I had no problems buttoning it up and the sleeves are the right length.

I think if you're looking for a blazer from an ethical brand, this one is a really good option (just size down one to two sizes).  As for me, my blazer days are over.  One of the perks of working for yourself is you pretty much get to wear what you want.  So I'll be sticking to my tee, jeans, and sweaters and I'll leave the blazers to you professionals.

{Thank you to all first-time Everlane customers who purchase through my referral link here.  It is because of you I am able to review so many Everlane items!}

P.S. I know this isn't Everlane related just yet but I read this really exciting article about Eileen Fisher and their clothing recycling program.  I have yet to buy something from them but I think they might be in my future!

Everlane Review Short Puffer Jacket

Everlane Review Short Puffer Jacket (1 of 5)-min.jpg

Hi y'all and how's this for a backdrop for my Everlane review photos?  This was taken on our last trip to South Lake Tahoe, which I thought would be a perfect place to try on the two puffers I purchased from Everlane, and yep both kept me cozy despite the wintery temperatures.

So when I first got this Short Puffer Jacket and polled you guys on Instagram, most of you guys gave it a thumbs down.  And I can see why.  It's quite an oversized square fit that just makes me look pretty wide on top.  I'm wearing a small here (my usual Everlane size) but I think I could have gotten away with an XS.  However because it's a bit large I can comfortably fit a sweater underneath should I need it.  In these pictures I'm wearing Grana's cropped cashmere sweater.

Everlane Review Short Puffer Jacket (2 of 5)-min.jpg

I actually really love this short puffer.  The material is waterproof but not shiny and slippery (it's quite matte).  The Primaloft filling is lightweight but does it's job well of keeping you warm.  There are angled pockets that are lined with a fleece-like material to keep your hands warm.  The zipper is super heavy duty and easy to zip.  There's an inner snap pocket large enough for my 7+ iPhone and there's inner cuffs at the sleeves to keep the cold air out.

Everlane Review Short Puffer Jacket (3 of 5)-min.jpg

I didn't personally test out how waterproof the jacket was since I didn't want to get it wet if I wasn't sure I was going to keep it.  But I did see Everlane's promo insta-story where they took it up to Canada and had it floating in an icy lake.  So I trust that it's quite waterproof.

Everlane Review Short Puffer Jacket (4 of 5)-min.jpg

{Wearing: Everlane short puffer (in small), Frame denim (similar here), Ugg snow boots (similar here)}

So the only thing holding me back from keeping this jacket is the fact that since it's a short puffer, even if I'm toasty up top, my butt and legs will be still exposed to the cold.  That's why when I buy winter jackets I usually get the long version.  And I know Everlane has their own long puffer, but then I would have 3 long winter jackets (plus their long puffer looks like it'll dwarf my short stature).  And I'm not sure I really need that many long winter jackets seeing as how I live in California (my other 2 winter jackets stay in my closet in Tahoe).

What do you think?  Should I keep it?

Everlane Review The Waffle Knit Cashmere Square Crew

Everlane Review The Waffle Knit Cashmere Swuare Crew.jpg

As I've mentioned in the past, this is my third winter of Everlane cashmere.  The first year I purchased a couple $125 sweaters (my favorite being this cropped cashmere crew reviewed here).  Then last year I purchased Everlane's $100 cashmere crew sweaters (which are awesome but quite boring) as well as the cashmere cropped mockneck (review here) and premium ribbed cashmere (review here), both of which I returned.  So you would think I can't possibly need any more cashmere in my life.  BUT when Everlane came out with waffle knit cashmere square crew, I couldn't resist!

First a note on sizing.  The square style that Everlane loves never seems to fit my body very well.  I've done square shaped tops and sweaters, and nothing flatters.  But since this waffle knit only comes in the square shape I really had no choice.  Knowing how oversized the square tops are, I ordered this in one size smaller than my usual (so I got an XS instead of an S).  And I actually really love the fit now.  It helps that the cashmere is so soft and drapey that it doesn't hold the square shape stiffly (which is the problem I had with some of their square-shaped button down tops that made me feel like I was wearing a sail).  Also because I went a size down, the sweater feels a bit more cropped, which I love.

zoomed in for texture

zoomed in for texture

I also really love the details of this sweater, from the waffle texture to the split side and split sleeve detail.  My other favorite Everlane sweater (the ribbed wool cashmere sweater from last year) that I get compliments on all the time also has this split side detail and I think it helps us petite girls get more visual length to our short legs.  The cashmere, of course, is super soft and yummy (more so I think because of the waffle texture).  I'm not sure how it will wear (whether or not it will pill more than their regular cashmere sweaters) so I'll update this review in a couple months and let you know.

The waffle knit cashmere is more expensive than their regular cashmere, but if you already have one of their $100 cashmere sweaters, I do think it's totally worth it to splurge on this waffled version.  The extra texture from the sweater plus all the extra details make it stand out.

As usual this review is unsponsored (though this post does contain affiliate links).  Thank you again to all first time Everlane buyers who purchase through my referral link for making these reviews possible!  And you can find all my other Everlane reviews here (which I recently updated!).

P.S. It's been a couple months since this article about Everlane came out from The New Yorker, but if you haven't read it yet it's quite interesting!

Everlane Review Cotton Long Sleeve V-Neck Crop

Everlane Review Cotton Long Sleeve V-neck Crop (2 of 3)-min.jpg

Hi guys, happy Wednesday!  So when I ordered Everlane's Cotton Long Sleeve Crew, which I reviewed last week (here), I also decided to try out their Cotton Long Sleeve V-neck Crop.  I usually like their cropped items better since I'm petite with short legs.  However I found their Crew Neck sweater to be slightly cropped and the perfect length, while this V-neck crop was a bit too cropped for me.  This cotton sweater probably would have looked better with Everlane's wide leg cropped pants (or another similarly high-waisted pants).

Everlane Review Cotton Long Sleeve V-neck Crop (3 of 3)-min.jpg
Everlane Review Cotton Long Sleeve V-neck Crop (1 of 3)-min.jpg

{Wearing: Everlane Cotton Long Sleeve V-Neck Crop, rag & bone cutoffs (similar here), Everlane Modern Loafer Mules, Saint Laurent Monogramme Sac Universite}

In the Cotton Long Sleeve Crew review I had mentioned how soft and stretchy their cotton material is, and of course the same holds true for this sweater.  But that's the only thing I liked about this sweater.  I didn't like the cropped length on me nor the super wide v-neck.  Both aspects make it more difficult to layer something underneath.  In the end I returned this sweater and kept the crew neck one.

I'm debating on trying out Everlane's luxe wool crew sweater too since I really love the crew neck style and I've never tried their luxe wool (100% extrafine merino wool) before.  Has anyone bought one?  And what do you think?  Or did you guys buy their $100 cashmere?  This is my third season of Everlane cashmere and I'm debating whether I should buy another one.  If I do it would be this crew neck one in the donegal pattern (update: of course it's now all sold out in my size so maybe I'll pass on the cashmere this year afterall).

P.S. I actually just bought the waffled cashmere because it's a new offering from Everlane this year and because it's waffled cashmere!  I'll try to get a review up as soon as I get it, which will probably be in a couple weeks since I'm also hitting the road again in our Airstream this week for the next 2 weeks.  Follow along on my Insta-story to see all the places we go on our roadtrip!

Everlane Review The Cotton Two-Pocket Shirt

Everlane Review the Cotton two-pocket shirt.jpg

It is a very very rare occasion that I love something from Everlane so much that I've purchased a duplicate.  I've only done it once before and it was for their linen dolman tee dress (reviewed here, no longer sold), which I only repurchased because it was on a 'choose your price' sale {and I'm so glad that I did since I accidentally put the first one in the dryer and it shrunk}.  Well here's repurchase number two: Everlane's cotton two-pocket shirt.  I bought one in black and another one in ochre (and now that I look they no longer have the black one).

Everlane Review The Cotton Two Pocket Shirt (1 of 1)-min.jpg

{Wearing: Everlane Cotton Two-Pocket Shirt, Marine Layer denim skirt (similar here), Everlane modern loafer mules (reviewed here), Hermes Lindy 30 bag (similar here)}

I have been looking for a shirt like this all summer for work.  As you know, I work in a large garage (with Airstreams) and am frequently outside.  And during the summer months I need a cover-up that I can quickly put on to cover my arms from the harsh San Jose sun.  But I also want it to be lightweight and not too close to the body.  It's as if Everlane read my mind because not only does this cotton button-up drape away from the body but it also has two large pockets to hold all the things I need while working (usually a pen, a walkie-talkie, and other odds and ends).  Above is how I styled the shirt before heading out for a casual dinner.  Below is a picture of me after a long day driving Airstreams up to Sebastopol and setting them up for a wedding delivery (this is how I really look 90% of the time).

IMG_2409-min.JPG

{Wearing: Everlane Cotton Two Pocket Shirt, rag & bone denim shorts (similar here), Adidas Adilette Cloudform slides (similar here), Hermes Lindy 30 bag (similar here)}

Not the best outfit photo but I just wanted to show you guys how I really wear it all the time.  Also a note on sizing, I went with a size 2 (my usual everlane size is 4) since this shirt looked so oversized and I didn't want to be really swimming in it.  It works well except maybe the sleeve length is a touch short but I don't mind since I usually roll them up anyway.  You definitaely want to size down with this shirt, but it also looks like there's not a whole lot of sizes left.

As usual this review is not sponsored but first time customers can support me by buying through my referral link (thanks!) and you can find all my other Everlane reviews here.

Everlane Square Zip Wallet Review vs. Celine Zip Wallet

Hi guys, so here's a review of Everlane's Square Zip wallet and a comparison with a Celine zip wallet (which I purchased used form Fashionphile at 30% off their own discounted price).  I know I know, I broke my ban by purchasing the Celine wallet, but I was really in a dire need for a new wallet (and I mean dire).  For the last couple years I've been using a Comme des Garcons pouch (like this one) to store all my cash and cards, and so whenever I went to the store to pay for something, I would have to shuffle my cards like I was dealing a deck of cards to find the right credit card.  Before it wasn't a huge deal since I didn't have too many cards.  But now I also carry around credit cards for the business (and throw in some gift cards), and there I am standing shuffling cards for a good minute (plus for some reason all my credit and debit cards are same shade of metallic blue, so it's so hard for me to distinguish them at a quick glance.  There's been a couple times I've charged personal items to the business which my husband was none too happy about).  So I just got to the point that I couldn't handle it anymore.  I needed some organization in my life!

Of course I could have just gone with the Everlane wallet since I would be purchasing it on credit (and that fit with my random rules I made for my shopping ban).  But at the same time, if this is something I'm going to be using everyday (and multiple times a day), I wanted to make sure it was the best possible wallet for me.  I really didn't want to just go with the Everlane one, and then find out a week or month later that I'm not really a fan of the wallet.  And then what?  Buy another one?  So I decided from the get-go to give myself some options. And so I wanted to compare it to one of the best luxury leather goods brand that I know of: CELINE (plus I've tried LV and Chanel wallets in the past and IMHO, they're ok but you're paying A LOT for the brand name).  Plus I had just spotted this zip wallet on Fashionphile at a price point that was really really good for Celine (ok it was still double the price of the Everlane wallet, but it was less than half the the original price of a new Celine wallet which can be in the low $600s).

Ok, so did I justify the purchase enough?  Lol, these are all the things I told myself when buying the Celine wallet for "research purposes".  Anyway onto the review!  I purchased the natural leather color for the Everlane wallet, which is the most delicate of the three colors.  A wallet like this would definitely show wear over time, so it's probably best to protect it with something like this Chamberlain's Leather Milk, formula 3 (P.S. I will be doing a review of their new reforumlated leather milks soon!  I really love their stuff to protect and condition all my leather items).  But the natural leather will also show a beautiful patina with age, if that's something you like.  I liked that the Everlane wallet also has a billfold for neatly storing cash.  But unfortunately that wasn't enough to make me want to keep the wallet.  Basically this wallet was too small for my needs, especially when it came to the cards department (which as you recall, is the main reason I needed to buy a new wallet).

As you can see there's only 4 card slots on one side of the wallet, a bulky coin purse that takes up the other side of the wallet.  I tried fitting all my cards (and even trying to put some cards in the coin purse, which only barely fit 2 cards by the way).  But the wallet wouldn't even close (plus I didn't want to force it since I wanted to make sure I didn't damage the wallet).

So in the end, the Celine wallet came out as the winner for me.  Even though it's about an inch wider than the Everlane wallet, it has a total of 8 card slots, plus 4 side slots that can fit flat items wider than a credit card (and one of those side slots has a gusset).  And so it fit all my cards!

Unfortunately it doesn't have a bill fold, so I stash my cash in the gusset pocket (which to be honest, holds all my cash adequately).  The Celine also was a winner because it's made from patent leather on the outside, which is so much more durable and less prone to wear than regular leather.  Plus I liked that the inside is made from a dark leather to show less wear inside as well.

Now I know some of you may be thinking, well duh I would like the Celine wallet better because CELINE!  But I really tried to look at the two wallets from a quality and utility stand point and not just because of a brand name.  And to be honest I really wanted to come out of this little experiment saying "yes, the ethical brand is just as good if not better than a luxury brand" in order to push my fair fashion agenda.  But in the end, when comparing the two compact wallets, I had to go with the one that fit my lifestyle best (one that's filled with plastic cards, lol).  And to be honest I haven't my regretted my decision one bit.

So referring back to the image from my post on Monday, if I couldn't find what I need from a fair fashion brand, at least I purchased something "vintage" (or just plain used).  And I think when you buy used luxury items, you do get a good bang for your buck since most well-made luxury items are meant to last.  At least this Celine wallet, which I love love love, fulfills #2, #3, and #4 of that ethical closet pyramid (plus I plan to #1 it for a long time to come).

Here are some other used Celine wallets that are currently for sale at my favorite luxury reseller Fashionphile.

P.S. A quick note about Fashionphile: I've been purchasing items from them for years and I would say most of the time their descriptions are accurate and the items are genuine.  And actually a couple purchases were even better than described (like this wallet--it was almost brand new to me).  I have purchased some items in the past, where I wasn't too sure if they were authentic (in my amateur eye), but they have a super awesome return policy with free returns (just don't cut off the tags).  But I would say that 99% of their items are the real deal. And if you want to be even more certain of your purchase, you can always double check with the kind authenticators over at the PurseForum (just make sure you follow their format when asking for authentication and always TIA since they do this service for free).

Everlane The Modern Loafer Mule Review

If you've been following along my Spring 10x10 you know I started wearing these babies during the challenge, so you probably already know these were a keeper.  I ordered these Everlane modern loafer mules just to try out but I loved them so much that I kept them despite the fact that I already have a pair of shoes very similar to these (the M.Gemi Docente mules, that I reviewed here).  I once owned a pair of the original modern loafers but even with some attempts at stretching them out, I ended up reselling the shoes to a reader (hi monshanks!) because they were just too narrow to be comfortable.  Well I'm happy to report that these modern loafer mules are quite a bit wider than their modern loafers and thus fit my feet a lot better!

I would say these run true to size (I ordered my usual size 8 and they fit perfectly).  The in sole is padded which is great and I love that these mules look almost identical to their full loafer counterpart!

But I should warn you that if you're not used to mules, that yes they can be a bit uncomfortable for prolonged wear.  This is especially true of this pair since the soles are so heavy.  So I end up having to drag the heels on the ground and clop around.  I usually only wear these when I want to look nice but I don't have to walk very far, mostly for dinners out or just around the office.  On the other hand I wear the M.Gemi Docente's all the time and even wore them around the airport when traveling (no blisters and no problems!).

I guess if the modern loafers didn't work for you and you really want a pair of shoes that look like them, then this might be for you.  I really like them since I couldn't handle the narrowness of the modern loafer and I don't mind clomping around in mules (actually it reminds me of my childhood in Hawaii running around in rubber slippers (aka flip-flops), dragging my heels on the ground).

Anyway you can find all of Everlane's items here and see all my other Everlane reviews here.

Everlane Review Stretch Ponte Crop Pants

As some of you know I've already reviewed Everlane's Stretch Ponte Pants so I wasn't really expecting these stretch ponte crop pants  to be all that different, just shorter.  But actually the cropped version of these pants fit quite differently than the regular ones and I think that's mostly due to the change in their sizing (they went from a S,M,L system to numerical sizes).  I'm usually between a 4 and a 6 and I got a M in the regular stretch ponte pants but they were a tad big.  So I went with the 4 here and probably should have gone with the 6.

And due to the fit these weren't the most flattering pants.  But like I said with the regular ponte pants, these are probably best layered with a long tunic or sweater since it's very unforgiving to bumps and panty lines.  But I did like the length of the cropped pants and the way they taper at the ends.

But in the end I decided to return it since I'm so over tight/fitted pants.  I've been living in my straight-leg jeans from Frame as well as all my Grana silk pants, and I've been relishing the loose flowing feeling from the culottes and the general un-sausage like feeling of my legs.  So actually when I tried these on I felt so constricted.  But if you're looking for a good alternative to leggings, this would be the perfect winter time substitute (since they're much warmer than regular leggings and more structured too).

And you can read Grechen's review of these same pants here.

Everlane Review Stretch Ponte Pants

I've never had success before with Everlane pants but a couple readers (thanks Page and Henny!) convinced me to try these stretch ponte pants.  And well...I like them but I'm pretty sure I'll like the cropped ones more (I purchased these before the cropped ones were released).  Take a look below:

{wearing: Grana chunky merino rib knit sweater (review here), Grana oxford shirt (review coming soon), Mansur Gavriel Sun bag (review coming soon), M.Gemi Felize loafers (review here & yep that's my third pair--I love them that much, lol)

I really like Everlane's stretch ponte material.  I have both their original dress version and their stretch ponte skirt.  So I was expecting to like their pants.  Which I do, except that the ponte material tends to cling or hug every bump and curve, so when these materials are made into pants you can see some VPL and general ab and thigh bulges (see pics below).  I don't have the same problems with the dress and skirt, probably because those clothes don't hug the butt and legs.  But this isn't as much of a problem if you wear longer shirts or sweaters, or treat these pants like leggings (which they basically are, just thicker than the normal leggings).  And on the plus side these pants are super duper comfortable and stretchy (great travel pants).  They're also quite warm, so they're perfect for the winter.

"Oh VPL, the shame" lol

I purchased these in a medium and they were a tad loose on me.  The cropped version comes in sizes 00-12 so you can get an even better fit with those probably.  The pants have an elastic waistband with a button and zip closure.  Like I said I like these pants, but I'm looking forward to trying on the crop version (which I was able to get in black too--even better).  If you're interested you can find these pants here (referral link--thanks for your support!) and you can find all my other Everlane reviews here.

Everlane Reviews By Clothing Category {updated May 2022}

So the other day I wanted to see how Everlane's square poplin shirt had looked on me so I went to my Ultimate Everlane Reviews page.  But I found that it was quite difficult to navigate so decided the best way to organize all the reviews might be by clothing category.  So without further ado here are all my reviews organized by clothing type (and I'll be updating this regularly as well).

Everlane Review Cashmere Sweatpants

You know how much I love Everlane cashmere (review here) so I was interested in trying out their cashmere sweatpants even though I've returned every single pants I've ever tried from Everlane (seriously, every single one).  And well, here's just another pair of pants I've returned to Everlane.  Guess Everlane and I just don't work when it comes to pants.

Well first I made the mistake of ordering a medium instead of a small.  I usually size up on pants because I'm just bigger on the bottom (usually a size 6, while I'm size 4 on top).  But really I should have ordered these in a small because I'm just swimming in the medium.  But even if I had ordered the right size I just don't think these pants are right for me.  They're basically just really expensive but comfy pajama bottoms.  There's no shape to them and since I don't have much of a butt, not flattering at all.  They're held up with drawstrings also made of cashmere knit (so I can see them stretching out with continued use).  For $140, I think I would do better with their $100 cashmere crew and a tee.

At this point I think I'm just going to give up Everlane pants.  They're just not made for my body.  Anyway you can find all my other Everlane reviews here and Everlane items here.

Everlane Ribbed Wool Cashmere Crew Sweater Review

I wasn't planning on buying another sweater from Everlane since I already have 4 of their cashmere sweaters (actually I'm selling one so make that 3).  Plus I figured 100% cashmere would be better than a cashmere wool blend sweater (in my head wool= itchy).  But since Everlane made the effort to make a whole line of ribbed wool cashmere sweaters it would behoove me to at least give it a try (and get a review out of it).  Well not only did I end up not sending this sweater back but I've been wearing this on repeat ever since I've first tried it on.

First of all this sweater is 92% wool and 8% cashmere so really it's a wool sweater.  So it feels like a wool sweater.  Yes, there's a bit of itch but really it's quite minimal.  But if you're expecting anything like the smooth, soft, irritation-free feel of cashmere you will be disappointed.  Since I always wear a shirt under my sweaters, I don't really feel the itch and it doesn't bother me.  Merino wool is not as warm as cashmere, but since this is a fairly thick sweater it will definitely keep you warm.  I've been wearing this when the weather's in the low 60s and it's been perfect.

What I love best about this sweater is the details in the design that make it different.  I love the side slits and the fact that it's fully ribbed in the front and partially ribbed in the back.  Because of the side slits, this sweater might look best with high-waisted jeans, like the ones the Everlane model wears.  But I just wear it with my regular jeans and tuck in whatever shirt I'm wearing. I also like that if I'm wearing a cool belt, you can see it peeking through the side slits of the sweater.

Wearing: Everlane sweater, Celine sunglassesHomako necklace, Frame denim, M.Gemi Felize loafers (yes my second pair, I love them so much!  Here's my original review of them), and my new Good West Co. tote purchased from West Coast Craft.

I ordered this in a small and the fit was perfect (for reference I'm 5'4" and usually a size 4 on top).  I actually like this sweater so much I'm tempted to get their ribbed wool cashmere cropped v-neck (I feel like it has the same "cool girl" vibe as this sweater, lol).  But I'll hold off since 1) that means I'll have 5 sweaters and that's getting to be excessive and 2) well I already ordered the premium ribbed cashmere crew (but really this is meant for review-purposes only, though I'm afraid I'm going to want to keep it).  Anyways you can check out Everlane's whole line of ribbed wool cashmere sweaters here and all my other Everlane reviews here.

Everlane City Anorak Review

Earlier this year I reviewed Everlane's original anorak and I loved it.  It was probably one of my favorite pieces at the time and was super useful for a very rainy spring in the SF Bay Area.  So when I saw that Everlane came out with another version of their anorak I knew I had to give it a try.  Well the City Anorak is completely different from Everlane's original (and made in different factories as well).  If you found Everlane's first anorak to be thin, flimsy, and not very waterproof then their new City Anorak was made for you.

The main difference between the two anoraks is that the city anorak is much much thicker and more heavy duty.  And the thicker material seems more waterproof than the original (which is more like a thin nylon).  Compared to the original anorak, the City Anorak would be something a fisherman could wear during a storm at sea or at least something that could handle any rain that comes your way.

Anyways here are all the differences that I could find between the 2 anoraks:

~ the City Anorak is a lot warmer (because of the thicker material)

~ the City Anorak there are 2 zippers so that you could partially unzip the bottom (the old one only had one), and the new anorak has sturdier zippers as well

~ because of the heavy material, you can't really cinch the waist of the city anorak like you can the old one even though it has the drawstring in the middle

~ the old anorak had a more interesting cut and overall design.  The City Anorak is a much simpler shape

~ the old anorak navy blue is a duller/dustier color, while the new anorak in navy blue is a much brighter blue

So if you're looking for a heavy duty, sturdy raincoat then Everlane's City Anorak is the one for you.  As for me, I actually prefer the older flimsier nylon version because it's a lot more lightweight to pack and it's a good layering piece for those California rainy/misty days.  I don't really need a heavy duty rain coat in my life and I really don't need 2 Everlane anoraks.

All my other Everlane reviews can be found here and you can find Everlane's anorak here

Everlane Review Pima Stretch Turtleneck

I'll say it up front: I dislike turtlenecks and having grown up in Hawaii,  never had to wear them.  But this year, turtlenecks seem to have a bit more of an appeal to me so I decided to try it out (I think it's Andrea's expert layering of her turtleneck over at Seasons+Salt that got me interested).  And if you're looking for a great layering turtleneck then Everlane's pima stretch turtleneck fits the bill.

I got the white turtleneck in a small, knowing that it was going to be on the tight and clingy side (I tried Everlane's pima stretch tee before so knew it was going to run small).  And just like the pima stretch tee, the turtleneck version is super soft and stretchy.  The white is a bit sheer so you can see even a nude bra, but that shouldn't be a problem when you're layering it. The neck portion of the turtleneck is also quite clingy (it doesn't quite look like the turtleneck on the model in the Everlane pics where the turtleneck looks like it flares out), and since I didn't like that constricted feeling around my neck I'm wearing this turtleneck with the neck part folded down.  I guess I'm still just not a turtleneck kind of gal.

Anyways you can find all my other Everlane reviews here.

Everlane Linen Muscle Tank Review

So this post for Everlane's linen muscle tank has been sitting in my drafts section for awhile now so it's about time I post it (before summer ends!).  I'm a huge fan of Everlane's linen scoop neck tee and their linen dolman dress, so I definitely like the type of linen they use, which is the same for their muscle tank.  The linen is thin but of quality and at first a bit scratchy but softens after the first wash.

I ordered this in a small, and as you can see it's a bit more fitted on me.  I think if you want the looser look like that of the Everlane model, you should size up from your normal Everlane size.  In general though I wasn't a huge fan of this top mainly due to the really small neck-hole and the sleeveless look (which is duh what makes it a muscle tee).  So now I think I'm just not a muscle tee kind of gal (probably cuz I'm lacking in the muscle department, lol).

Everlane Modern Smoking Loafer Review

Everlane's Modern Smoking Loafer seems to have been upstaged by its younger sister, the Modern Oxford, at least when it comes to attention and press given by Everlane.  But I'm always in the market for a good smoking loafer so I ordered this baby as soon as it came out.  And the quality and craftsmanship did not disappoint as usual.  But (and you knew there was going to be something), it's quite possibly the most uncomfortable loafer-type shoe made by Everlane to date (ok well I'm just comparing it to the modern loafer and the modern point).

First off, I ordered this shoe in my normal Everlane shoe size of 8 (my usual shoe size is around 7.5 but because I have wide feet and Everlane shoes run narrow I always go a half size up).  And the 8 fit length-wise but it was still a bit narrow for my feet.  The leather on these shoes are really beautiful but aren't like the super stiff smooth leather of the modern loafer or the softer pebbled leather of the modern point.  It's a lot like the leather they use for their boots.  It's smooth but also very stiff and structured.  And since these already squeeze my foot quite a bit I would imagine that it would take awhile for these to break in.

I'm also not a fan of the stitching that's around the edges that meet the foot.  I know this is what makes the smoking loafer look, but for some reason they just keep rubbing the tops and sides of my feet with each step.

Ah, I wanted to love this shoe so much.  And I do love the look but I'm not willing to put the time and pain into making these shoes more comfortable.  So I am for sure sending them back.  I guess my quest for the perfect smoking shoes continues.
