Everlane Modern Oxford Shoe Review

So if you've read my review of Everlane's Modern Smoking Shoe, you know I wanted to love it but didn't.  Well for Everlane's Modern Oxford, I didn't think I would like it but I actually loved it.  It just goes to show that you can never really tell about something until you try it on.

I didn't expect to like Everlane's oxfords mostly because I'm a fan of the slip-on type of shoe (like Toms and M.Gemi's Felize Loafers).  In fact the only shoes I have with laces are my running/gym shoes, until now that is.  But I fell in love with these oxfords as soon as I laced them up and took my first couple of steps.  First of all, these shoes are probably the second most comfortable shoe I've ever tried from Everlane (the first being their Street Sandals;  but these are the most comfortable closed-toe shoes).  The oxfords are hands down way more comfortable than their Modern Loafers or their Modern Point shoes.  And that's because they widened the toe box area (which is consistently where my wide feet have issues).

The shoes seemed to have pretty good arch support and I would say the only minor irritation with this shoe is the stiff leather tongue at the top of the shoe that kept poking the top of my foot (but this will eventually go away when I break them in some more).  Also I'm wearing these pedi socks to prevent any blisters or from the shoes from smelling (a note on these socks: I have a hard time finding no-show socks that stay on my foot but these are amazing--but I would advise not putting them in the dryer since they will shrink a little).

I also love love love the blush color.  It's the perfect nude shoe to help those with shorter legs like me since it doesn't visually cut you off at the ankles.  I styled it above with my favorite pair of wide-leg jeans from Frame (similar here), a Clare V shirt, and LV bag for my masculine look and with Grana's slip dress and a Gucci bag for my feminine look.  I love that these shoes could pretty much polish off any outfit (probably even my usual uniform of cut-off shorts and a tee).

Oh and just a note on sizing, I ordered my usual Everlane shoe size of 8 (I usually wear a 7.5-8 in shoes) and they fit perfectly.  Currently Everlane is out of most of the sizes in the blush oxfords but it looks like they'll be restocking them at the end of October.  As usual this review is completely unsponsored, and you can find all my other (unsponsored) Everlane reviews here.

Everlane Modern Babo Shoes Review

Hi guys and I'm back with another Everlane shoe review!  Presenting Everlane's Modern Babo:

I was really excited when I saw these shoes in Everlane's "Coming Soon" section since I've been looking for some slip-on mules.  I ordered a size 8, which is my normal Everlane size (my normal shoe size is 7.5 but if you have slightly wide-ish feet like I do then order a half size up.  Everlane's shoes are always on the narrow side).

Now onto the review...

The Pros:

-As expected, Everlane makes another gorgeous leather shoe.  The leather is of super high-quality and the Babo looks really streamlined and modern.  I definitely like the look of this shoe.

-And this isn't just another leather slide.  I really like the fact that you can wear the heel flattened for a mule look or up for loafer-bootie look.  If you wear this with jeans that go past your ankles, it would probably look like you're wearing boots.  When I first saw the Babo, before trying it on, I thought the flattened heel part would be annoying to step on, but really since it's pretty much pre-flattened for you, you don't feel like your heel is stepping on something when walking in these shoes.  Also I should note that if I were to wear these shoes with the heel up, I would probably need to wear some socks with it since it's slightly too big when worn in this way (the shoes seem a bit longer than the usual Everlane size 8, but it's not a problem when wearing these shoes as a mule).

But the Cons:

- The biggest deal breaker for me was that my feet got really hot in the time I was trying out the shoes and taking pictures.  If I were to wear this in the hot summer sun, I would for sure get feet-sweat which would then probably lead to some smelly Babos.  So really this means I'm probably not cut out to wear any kind of leather mules here in San Jose, especially not in the summer.

- No arch support on these shoes, which would be a problem if I walked around in them for long periods of time (but I would have to deal with the feet-sweat first if that were to happen).

-Also, like Everlane's loafers and modern point, the bottom of the soles are slippery so just add some of these sole stopperz helps.

So in the end I returned the Babos, which I was semi-reluctant to do because I really did like the look of them.  I might leave it open as a possibility for winter shoes here in California, but for now I'm looking forward to the release of Everlane's slide and sandals (today!).  I've been a bit of a Goldilocks lately when it comes to Everlane items (I've returned pretty much everything I've ordered in recent history except for their anorak and new tees).  I'm quite sure I'm their most prolific returner, but at the same time why keep something I won't wear?  Anyways as usual, reviews are done on items I've purchased for myself and are not sponsored (at this point I bet Everlane is thinking why bother sending me free stuff when I just buy and return everything anyway, lol).  And check out my other Everlane reviews here and Everlane's items (referral link, thanks guys for your support!).

Everlane Relaxed Poplin Shirt Review

Hi guys, just a quick review for you today on the new relaxed poplin shirt!  I got it in the classic blue and white stripes and in a size 4.  Just like their Silk Square Shirt (review here) and GoWeave Track Pants (review here), Everlane is making their poplin shirts in various numeral sizes.  I tried out their Square Silk Shirt in a size 2 and even though it fit, I thought it might have been a tad small for me, so I went one size up with their relaxed poplin shirt.  But I found that size 4 was a bit too big.  So for tops, I think I'm going to stick with size 2 for now.  (For reference, I usually wear a size 4 in all other brands).

First the pros:

-The poplin material feels crisp and structured and seems to be of a pretty high-quality (as far as I can tell, but I'm not really an expert on these kinds of "office" shirts).  The poplin is smooth and doesn't feel thin or flimsy.

-The front gives enough space for my chest so it doesn't annoyingly pop open at the button when I straighten my shoulders (ok, I just did some internet research and I guess it's called "the gape").  But to be fair, I might not have had the gape on this shirt because it was a bit too large overall.

And then the cons:

-But again, the shape/style just doesn't work with my body (damn you short legs!).  I found the poplin shirt to be way too long for me (I think even if I sized down, the overall length of the shirt is on the long-side).  It made my short legs look even shorter, and the shirt ended pretty much near the widest point across my thighs.  I could wear it tucked in, but that's not really my style.

-And even though I love the poplin material, it wrinkles super easily and I hate ironing.  So this shirt is a no-go for me.  Especially since I don't work in an office, I don't really see a need for this shirt in my limited wardrobe.

But if you're looking for a high-quality office shirt, I think these are a really great option (especially if you wear your office shirts tucked-in, which is most people I imagine).   As usual, reviews are done on items I've purchased for myself and are not sponsored.  Check out my other Everlane reviews here.

Also I ordered the Poplin Square Shirt and the Poplin Shirtdress so I'll be sure to add those reviews when I get them!

A little Everlane and Mansur Gavriel update and more reviews coming soon!

Hi guys, I just wanted to 1) share these images from Everlane that I saw in my email.  I just really loved the styling in these photos and it's making me consider trying out one of their trenches.  Have any of you purchased one of their trenches?  What do you think?  I would love to know!  Also 2) just a quick update on some reviews that I'm working on!  I'm currently trying to finish up a review on Everlane's modern ankle boot and the street ankle boot (spoiler: they're both pretty awesome) and I just ordered the square silk shirt in white/grey so we'll see how that goes.  And for those still interested in Mansur Gavriel bags, I ordered the mini lady bag so that should be coming soon (yay an early birthday present for myself!).

Everlane Pima Cotton Stretch Shirt Review

Hi everyone!  It's been busy busy here at the Airstream rental garage and with our impending move out of our house.  But of course, I still need to get my Everlane fix so here's a quick review of Everlane's Pima Stretch mid-sleeve shirt.  First a note about the size: I usually wear a size 4 or small on most tops including Everlane.  But this is the first shirt from Everlane where I needed to size up.  These shirts are super fitted (when I wore the small it looked like the top half of a leotard.  And now that I see the shirt on the Everlane model, I'm sure it's not a coincidence that the skinniest of their models is the one wearing this).  Luckily I ordered both a small and a medium and was able to see that though the medium is also quite fitted, it wasn't as Spanx-like as the small.

The pros:

-The Pima cotton is super soft (as expected of Pima from Peru) and the stretchiness of the cotton makes the shirt really comfortable.  The material is thin but seems durable enough.

-I think the scoop neckline and sleeve length are both really flattering.  (Sorry didn't have time to take any pictures, but I'll try!).  Overall the cut is feminine and really flattering (for my more skinny days.  I don't recommend wearing this shirt to go eat a buffet).

The cons:

-Other than the sizing issues, the only real con I think for this shirt is specifically for the white pima shirt: it's super sheer.  I'm sticking to the black and grey colors for this shirt.

Overall, I think these are great shirts and a good alternative to the Everlane cotton V-neck and U-neck shirts I usually wear.  The cut of the Pima shirt is most like the drop-shoulder t-shirt but the Pima version is a lot more fitted and softer.  I'm pretty sure I'll be adding these Pima shirts to my rotation of daily Everlane shirts I wear and I'm excited to see Everlane expanding their network of ethical factories (I always like to scan their factories page and this Peru one sounds exceptional!).  As always, reviews are done on items I've purchased for myself and are not sponsored.  Check out my other Everlane reviews here and Everlane's items (referral link).  Thanks for reading!

Everlane Boxy Striped Tee Review

Just a super quick review today for those interested in Everlane's boxy striped tee. I purchased the white/black version quite awhile back and I really liked it.  I ended up purchasing an XS in this because it looked so big, and it fit perfectly.  I'm usually a small in everything else Everlane, and about a size 4 in J.Crew/Gap.

Pros:

-The length is perfect.  The front is a little shorter than the back so it looks cropped but you have some coverage in the back

-The heavy weight cotton is perfect for layering under a jacket during the winter months.

-The 3/4 sleeves are the perfect length for the look.

Con:

- The tee is quite boxy so it's going to be an oversized look.

Above images from Kate and Grechen.  Check out Grechen's review of the striped tee and another review here.

In the end though I returned it because I already have too many striped shirts.  See exhibit A below: {true, you can argue that you can't have too many striped shirts but you can have too many clothes for an airstream}

But I would say if you don't have too many striped shirts yet, this one is a great option.  As usual, this review was done on items I've purchased myself and is not sponsored (though yesterday I got $30 from Everlane for giving them some feedback over email, but I haven't spent that yet.  Yay for my first credits from Everlane!).

Everlane Ponte Collection Dress Review and Clean Edge Tee Review

For the most part, I try to group my Everlane reviews into categories that make sense (like my Everlane Sweater and Silk Review and my Everlane Tees Review) or as single features (like my Everlane Modern Point Review, Modern Loafer Review, Street Shoes review, my Everlane Modern Zip Backpack Review, and my Everlane Petra Review).  I also have a Fall 2015 Sweater and Silk review.  But for now, I'm going to combine a review of the Ponte Collection Dress and Clean Edge Tee even though there's no real reason for this grouping, other than I bought both of these items around the same time.  Like my other reviews, I hope this will also help you figure out your Everlane sizing. {edit: Since I've reviewed so many Everlane items, I've organized all my Everlane reviews here based on what I liked/disliked.}

So without further ado, first the good news: the Everlane Ponte Collection short-sleeve dress is one of my favorite clothing purchases this year.  The fabric feels super luxe and has a great stretch so it's super comfy.  I love the casual look of a t-shirt dress but I always find that the material for those kinds of dresses are a bit flimsy or sheer.  But this is sort of the luxe version of a t-shirt dress.  The heavy material masks any lumps, like love handles or a belly.  It's just much more structured but there's still a stretchiness that makes it comfortable.  I also like that the sleeves are only about a couple inches above the elbow so it hides and holds in my "chicken wings/bat wings" (i.e. flabby triceps).  The only one thing I didn't like about this dress is that it doesn't have pockets (but this is just a personal preference, I love a dress that has pockets).  Also be warned the ponte material is heavy and it's definitely not a dress for the summer.  Yet it's perfect for the fall and winter months (with layers), and it's such an easy thing to put on when you want to look instantly polished (plus it's perfect pretty much year around for SF).  I purchased this dress in a small and it was the perfect fit (for reference I'm 5'4" and I wear about a size 4 or small in other brands).

Unfortunately I didn't like the Clean Edge Tee as much.  I love Everlane's other tees so I thought I would give this one a shot, however it's unlike all the rest.  First of all I purchased a size small (which I'm finding is my size in most things Everlane) but the fit on this shirt was waaaay oversized.  The small felt like a large.  Also the way they achieve a clean edge on these tees is through a very stiff bonding of the cotton.  It almost feels like they stitched some cardboard inside the edges.  This makes for a generally uncomfortable fit on the sleeves and at the hem.  For a similar look but a much better fit, I recommend the drop shoulder cotton tee.

Like all my other reviews this review is done with items I've purchased for myself and are not sponsored.  Thanks for reading and stay tuned for my big Fall 2015 Sweater and Silk Review!

Everlane Modern Point Review

So far I'm a big fan of Everlane's shoe selection and I've done an Everlane Modern Loafer Review and an Everlane Street Shoe Review.  Today I'll be reviewing their Modern Point Shoes and spoiler alert: I love these Everlane shoes the most.

First, if you wanted to see the difference between the Modern Loafer and the Modern Point:

Comparison photo of Everlane Modern Points and Everlane Modern Loafers

Comparison photo of Everlane Modern Points and Everlane Modern Loafers

As you can see, the Modern Point is a sleeker shoe (which I prefer) while the Modern Loafers are of a more classic and traditional style.  As for sizing, they are consistent.  I purchased the both the Modern Point and Modern Loafer in a size 8 (while for Everlane's Street Shoe, I had to go another half size up to 8.5; and for reference I usually wear a TOMS 7.5).

Now what I love most about the Modern Points, other than the sleeker style is the type of leather they used for this shoe.  It's a very soft and flexible leather so it doesn't require a breaking in period (if you read my Modern Loafers Review, you know that I used the freezer method to break-in the shoe instead of actually wearing them to break them in).  With the Modern Points, I didn't have to do that.  It fit like a glove from the very beginning.  Also the leather around the ankles and Achilles on the Modern Loafer is a lot stiffer and thus hurts those areas after wearing it for awhile, but that's not a problem with the Modern Point (the leather doesn't come up as high on the Modern Point so it doesn't hit those areas).

As with the Modern Loafer, the bottom of the Modern Point is super smooth and slippery so I recommend getting Foot Petals Sole Stopperz (I bought them for the Modern Loafers and luckily it comes with 4 so I had two left for the Modern Points).

If you're deciding between Everlane's Modern Loafers or the Modern Points, and you like the look of both of them, I would recommend the Modern Points.  It's just a much more comfortable shoe and it's about $15 less (which is enough to go buy one of Everlane's plain tee).  But really you can't go wrong with either one!  Both are well-made, sturdy leather shoes crafted in Italy.

{And if you're wondering why I didn't compare the Everlane Street Shoes with the Modern Point as much, it's because those shoes are quite different from each other.  But if you would like more details on that comparison just let me know in the comments below, thanks!}

After I had purchased the black Modern Points, I was thinking about getting the black and white pair (that's how much I love these!) but unfortunately (or fortunately for my wallet) they're out of my size now.  The black and white pair are the perfect substitute for the trendy Celine pair on the left.
