Continuing with 2023 recaps here on the blog, I wanted to take a moment to look at all my most worn items over the year.
Winter/Spring:
The Curated Tailored Coat in Dark Green: This is my second coat from The Curated and I love it just as much as my first camel small Classic one, or maybe just even a bit more. I like the longer length of the Tailored coat. I also got it in a medium so it fits better with a sweater underneath. I pretty much wore it every day in the winter, and my favorite outfit was the monochromatic one above. I really love the coats from The Curated and got another one in navy (The Classic in medium) during their sale in the summer. If there’s a Tailored coat in this year’s summer sale I might be tempted to pick up one more.
Quince Alpaca half zip: This was hands down my most worn sweater last year, and it showed (the pilling was crazy). Even though I really love the warmth, lightness, and style, I don’t think I’ll buy another one like this because tbh when it comes to quality it borders on fast fashion (the sweater can’t last more than a season).
Quince mongolian cashmere fisherman sweater: This was my second most worn sweater and it also pilled like crazy. I love the softness, thickness, and coziness of this sweater but like the sweater above, the quality was meh. I go over both this sweater and he alpaca one above in my Quince Sweaters Review here.
Quince organic cotton cardigan: Unlike the top two sweaters, this organic cotton one is awesome. The quality is there with a tight weave—no stretching out here. I love it so much I got 4 in different colors (black, navy, camel, and white). It’s my go to for most of the year and for both indoor and outdoor wear. If you want a big oversized cardigan I suggest taking a look at this Quince one.
babaa jumper no 25: Now that looser fit pants are back in the picture, I’ve been looking to balance it out a bit with a more fitted top. And the only fitted sweater that I have is this merino wool one from babaa that I purchased secondhand from the RealReal. Even though I just got this sweater in February of 2023, it has become a fast favorite (and currently is one of the sweaters included in my #nonew10x10 challenge I’m doing for myself on Insta right now). It’s just a great classic sweater that’s very well made. And even though the once popular babaa chunky cardigan was well made, I never really reached for it because it wasn’t my style (I have to admit my cottage core phase was just that, a phase). I blame the pandemic, but I’m much more comfortable in classic and simple shapes.
Birkenstock Boston Clogs: Even though I have them in this Winter/Spring category, I honestly wore them all year long. I love love love my Boston clogs. I have them in a beige leather (don’t like them in suede) and in the narrower footbed (I have wide-ish feet but I find that the narrow footbed is easier for me to walk in—it doesn’t slip off). I do think though that if you have narrow feet, these might not be the shoes for you. I talk all about it in my Birkenstock Boston Review here.
St. Agni Leather mules: I have worn these mules so much that I’ve had to take them to my cobbler twice now to get them resoled. And yet they’re still going strong. I love the slightly padded insole, and the simple clean look. After the Boston clogs, these were my next go to shoe. We’ll see when they (if ever) fall apart.
Everlane 90’s Cheeky Jeans: These were my go to the first half of the year. I have two, one in a light wash and one in a darker one. Love them both and wore them a ton. I review them in my 2022 Everlane Review here.
Mate the Label Terry Sweatshirts: And for the 3rd year in a row, these Mate the Label sweatshirts are my most worn at-home casual item (leisure wear so to speak). I usually pair this with my Quince supersoft fleece shorts (not on this list because all Quince items are in my Most Worn Quince Items of 2022 and 2023 post). Anyway I bought one more in black this year because Mate is phasing them out. So now I have three that I purchased new and two from eBay for a total of 5 of these sweatshirts. I was actually messaged by the marketing people at Mate letting me know that my links are now defunct because many of the products in my Mate the Label review are no longer made, and they recommended checking out the Organic Fleece Oversized Sweatshirt or the Bubble Sweatshirt as alternatives. But seeing as I have 5 and they’re not really wearing out at all, I’m in no rush to buy more.
Summer/Fall:
Everlane A-line shorts: My only pair of shorts that I wore this year was my Everlane A-line shorts. I love them and plan to wear them all this year as well! Review of them here.
Quince linen long sleeve shirts: And these long sleeve linen tops from Quince were what I wore most with these shorts. Overall it was a very loose-fitting easy breezy outfit that I repeated almost daily. I ended up getting about 8 of these in various colors and two sizes (medium for the days I wanted a slimmer fit and large for the days I didn’t want anything touching my skin). Quince linen pants: If I didn’t feel like wearing shorts (as in, oops I forgot to shave my legs again lol) I wore these Quince linen long pants. I love the easy elastic waist and the monochromatic look I could get from pairing it with the Quince linen long sleeve shirt (as in the pic above). I also got these in various colors and two sizes (again medium and large). The large ones are my favorite road trip and airplane pants since they’re basically pajamas 😂. Yes Friends Tees: This is my go-to for shirts. I now have 4 tees that I love and use constantly. Since my original Yes Friends review, their price has gone up (about $4) and the fit has changed to be a tad longer and with a wider collar at the neck (I ended up getting all my tees in small and prefer the more fitted look—works especially great under fitted sweaters). But other than that, the quality is still great and they continue to work on making a truly sustainable and ethical product.
Everlane Straight Leg Crop Pants: For some reason I went back to these Everlane crop pants again this summer (probably because I got a navy mule from Jenni Kayne that worked so well with this navy pants). Anyway I originally got these pants in 2020 but stopped wearing them (because they’re hard pants)—see my review of them here. I guess I stopped wearing hard pants altogether for a couple of years there. But now that I’m going back to jeans, these became a favorite as well. So much so that I bought another one in white off of eBay. But I find that the navy ones are still the only ones I consistently reach for.
Secondhand Agolde Jeans from the RealReal: This one is more like an honorable mention because I just got them in September. But I’ve been wearing them constantly since I got them and I’m in love. These are the Pinch Waist Hi Rise Kick Jeans. I originally thought the first owner of these jeans had them hemmed but I see that they’re already a slightly cropped length, which is perfect for my short legs. I have a search for high waist Agolde jeans on the RealReal saved and from time to time I check to see if they have any in my size. This is my first pair of Agolde jeans from the RealReal that have been a true success, and for $40 it was a complete steal!
And that’s it! Whew it’s a lot, and I’m thinking I should do a recap after the end of each season so it’ll be fresh in my mind. But either way since I don’t have a ton of vareity in my closet, it’s pretty easy to pinpoint which ones were my most worn (and not to mention it’s pretty easy to get dressed). After almost 8 years of blogging, I don’t have a capsule wardrobe but I definitely have my main go-tos, and then some satellite peices that come into the mix to make it interesting once in awhile. But this year I think I’m going to try a bit harder and mix it up some more!
