June 2023 Recap

Did

At the end of May we went on a one-week RV trip to Folsom/Sacramento and Caleveras Big Trees State Park. We were actually supposed to go to a campground in the Truckee area but our reservation was canceled because a late snow season meant they couldn’t get the campground ready in time for Memorial Day. But we enjoyed our 4 days in Sacramento—it was our first time really spending time there and wow what a great big little city. The sprawl of what is included under the umbrella of “Sacramento” was surprising, but we enjoyed staying in Folsom (with their lake beaches) and going to Old Town Sacramento (and the Railroad Museum) and Rancho Cordova for the Sacramento Children’s Museum. And Caleveras State Park was amazing. Camping next to Sequoia trees is just magical, and I loved being able to easily get to hikes (right now we do all the easy ones because of our 4 year old). But there’s nothing more healing to a busy soul than spending some time with big old trees.

This month I updated my Quince Fine Jewelry Review with two rings, the 14k Gold Curb Chain ring and the Dainty Seed Pearl Half Eternity ring. I also updated my Quince linen sheets review because after almost 4 years of constant use (and machine washing and drying) the fitted sheet got a large hole (like the size of my head)! I ended up cutting up the sheet for rags, but it’s the first time I’ve gotten a hole in my sheets. I know that doesn’t bode well for the quality of these sheets. However I love the feel of linen sheets and their price point so I ordered another set and am hoping that these sheets fair better.

Bought

Hermes 70cm silk scarves from the RealReal: You can call me granny now because I am now a proud wearer of scarves (something I’ve previously thought only grandmas and flight attendants wear). But I’ve been noticing that my neck has an increasing number of both moles and wrinkles, and since I don’t like wearing sunscreen on my neck (nothing more unappealing than a greasy neck) I’ve decided that scarves a la Diane Keaton would be a better way to prevent sun damage on my neck. So I bought a couple of Hermes silk scarves from the RealReal. And I’m very pleased with their quality (the silk is quite thick and substantial, not flimsy as I was expecting). I don’t plan on getting a whole collection, and for now I’m very happy between the two I switch between.

Hermes Regate Scarf Ring: And with the scarves, I decided to get a scarf ring. That way I didn’t have to deal with fussy knots or intricate maneuvers. I literally just put two ends in the scarf ring and pull the ring to my neck. Easy peasy. I ended up buying this one directly from Hermes because getting it used was not especially cheaper. Also this way I know I’m for sure getting the real deal. I love my scarf ring, and I wear both the scarf and ring most days that I’m out and about outdoors.

Merit Beauty Signature Lip and Gelee Shade Slick: I love and have reviewed Merit Beauty’s lip products before, but I couldn’t resist their Signature Lip in Aperetif, a new limited edition summer color and trying their new Gelee Shade Slick. Both are the perfect lip products for summer!

The lovely folks at Jennifer Fisher Jewelry asked if I wanted something from their brass line, and being such a JF fan (read my first Jennifer Fisher Jewelry and Salt review here) I couldn’t resist. I ended up going for their small brass pearls (which to me kind of remind me of those key chains with the continuous little balls), which I reviewed last week (read my Jennifer Fisher Jewelry brass jewelry review here).
