Back in 2018 I wrote a blog post detailing my best and worst luxury bag purchases. Well it’s been several years so I decided to update that post with what I consider my best and worst luxury purchases as of 2021. I’ve decided to include items other than bags this time and I’m expanding my definition of “luxury” to mean anything that’s expensive for what it is and not a necessity.
Best Luxury Purchases
So the items that were on the 2018 post and which I still believe are my best luxury purchases are the Celine Soft Cube, Fendi By the Way Bag, and the Celine Nano Belt Bag (still miss the Micro and wish I hadn’t sold it). You can check out the reviews or the 2018 post to see why I loved them so much. I still carry these bags often and they’ve held up beautifully. And I still love the other bags in my “best” list from 2018 but these three are my most used and my favorites.
Augustinus Bader Rich Cream: This beauty item is my definition of luxury, something that is absolutely not needed and very expensive. But I’m addicted to it and I find myself repurchasing every time I run out (and my skin texture starts to change back to what it was). I 100% believe this cream helps smoothen my skin and helps with the texture. (I have tried the new formula and I still love the cream though it’s noticeably less rich, but read the updated review for my full opinion).
Apple Watch: This is a fairly recent purchase, which I just reviewed. But I love it (as you could tell from my review) but now I can’t imagine my life without it (or rather I don’t want to lol).
Martiniano Glove Shoes: I called this the Bentley of flats back in 2019 when I first reviewed them and I still stand by that statement. I loooove my Martiniano shoes and am still on the lookout for gently used ones on the secondhand market. I would love to own them in several colors. I ended up keeping a beige colored pair that I wear about twice a week. I’m not gentle with my shoes and they’ve gotten wet (so they now have some water marks) and they’re scuffed at the toes. But I’m going to wear them until there are holes (and of course I’ll let you know when/if that happens). These shoes are 100% worth it.
Cartier Love Bracelet: I’ve been wearing this everyday since I got it, so the cost per wear is down to about $8.33, which isn’t bad. And I love how this bracelet looks now more than ever because of the scratches and patina. I would buy this again in a heartbeat and have no regrets.
Worst Luxury Purchases
I still stand by some of the worsts from my original 2018 list which includes the Goyard tote (though I think the smaller size might be less floppy and there are people who looove love their Goyard so 🤷🏻♀️), Gucci WOC, and Valentino Rockstud purse. But looking back now I think the Loewe Hammock wasn’t so bad (I kind of miss it now) and neither was the Celine trotteur (sure it was small but it’s still a classic). But new for my 2021 list:
Mansur Gavriel Protea bag: Ok so Mansur Gavriel doesn’t quite qualify as luxury but it definitely was an overpriced bag and it was definitely not worth it. Ended up selling it a loss (woomp woomp).
Dr. Barbara Sturm products (pretty much all of them): At best these products did nothing for me, and at worst they broke me out. Recently Gina kindly shared her whole experience with their products and they did nothing for her too. Of course everyone’s different (and their skin is different), but to me this beauty brand is allhype.
Ok not too many new “worst” purchases here because I’m not buying as much as I used to and I’d like to think I’m making better purchasing decisions 😆
