Weekend Update/Ramblings

Hi guys! It’s been a minute since my last personal weekend post. Guess that’s because I really haven’t had anything to report, plus I might have had a small case of the blahs. But I’ve been trying to do some gratitude practices and reminding myself that this too shall pass, and I think it’s been helping. Anyway what prompted me to hop on here for this bit of rambling is, believe it or not, the topic of cleaning lol. Let me just start off by saying I’m a decent cleaner when I want to be, but my forte is more like tidying up. I’m great at piling things into spaces and stuffing closets for the appearance of neatness. But day to day grime doesn’t bother me much and I can easily let it slide for far too long. So this past week we hired cleaners for our home for the first time in my life. I think I held off from doing so because it felt a bit like a badge of shame (like some kind of wife/mother inadequacy). But truth be told, we needed it. I think I finally felt ok with it after our Airstream trip because I remember hiring cleaners when we ran the Airstream rental business (and I had no shame in that). Also I watched Maid on Netflix (which I enjoyed), and remembered that cleaning is a respectable job that people don’t mind doing (plus we paid them quite a bit for this first deep clean so they’re earning a decent living too I hope). And boy oh boy, the difference a professional makes! Our house has never looked this clean ever! Now we’re on a once a month plan (at a very good rate) and I think it’s the best decision we’ve made in awhile (and I acknowledge how lucky we are to be able to afford this indulgence).

And while we’re on the topic of cleaning, I recently washed my sweaters with The Laundress Wool and Cashmere Shampoo for the first time. Before this, I would take my sweaters to the dry cleaners, which I very much disliked mostly because of the plastic sheeting the clothes come back in (and not to mention all the chemicals used in the process). I purchased the Wool and Cashmere Shampoo awhile ago but never used it. But when I purchased some sweaters off the RealReal that really needed a wash (hello old lady perfume smells), I finally cracked open the bottle and gave it a try. I used the delicate setting (cold water, no spin) and mesh bags (also be sure to turn the sweaters inside out). And then I dried it out on towels in the sun and wow the sweaters feel fluffy and brand new. Seriously if you haven’t tried it yet you’re missing out! No more dry cleaners for me ever I hope.

Anyway happy November guys! Hope you’re all doing well!
