Apiece Apart Review: Chios Jumpsuit

Apiece Apart Review

I purchased this Apiece Apart jumpsuit from Slowre back in March, but I’d been eyeing this brand for quite awhile on the Real Real (their current selection of Apiece Apart here). I’m not sure where I first heard about them, but this two women-led brand has been on my radar for awhile. Yet, I wasn’t about to drop $150+ for a top or $300+ for a dress. So when I found this jumpsuit (in my size no less) for sale (for $40!!) at Slowre, I knew this was my chance to try the brand.

Since I purchased this jumpsuit used, I would consider this an ethical purchase. However, when I tried to discover more about the ethics behind this company, I didn’t learn much. This particular jumpsuit is made in the US, and for its original price tag of $390 I would hope that the makers were paid a fair wage and are sewing under great working conditions (but that is definitely not a guarantee). Some of their other clothes are made in India. And most of their items are made of natural fibers and they use 100% organic cotton (at least in their current selection of cotton clothing). The brand is included in EcoCult’s list of sustainable and eco-friendly dress brands (though she also doesn’t include any further details of their ethics either).

A look at their website shows that they use size inclusive models (their sizing goes up to 12 for their regular line, but a few select items are made up to size 20). However, there are zero BIPOC models. You do see them feature some BIWOC stories in their “Apiece Apart Woman” series, which is their showcase of their “network of talented, clever, and self-starting women.” But it’s too bad there’s no diversity among the models they choose to sell the clothes.

Apiece Apart Review

As for the jumpsuit itself, it’s made of a sturdy mid-weight cotton. The bodice has lining and straps are adjustable. Overall, I would say that it’s a quality piece of clothing. I’m wearing a size 6 here, which is a tad large on me but it’s perfect for wearing a blouse underneath like I did in the pictures here. But the size 6 did fit my hips well (a size 4 might have been a bit of a squeeze). The length was waaay too long for me and I rolled it up twice and secured it with fabric tape when I was wearing it. Judging from this jumpsuit (and the overall selection on their website), Apiece Apart is not made for petite women (there’s no petite sizing). I would have considered hemming this, but after wearing it a couple times I decided I didn’t love it enough to keep it. I was able to easily resell it on eBay (and in general I find the brand has good resale value-especially if you buy it used).

As for me, I probably won’t be purchasing anything new from them and might consider the brand if I find something I like used. For the most part this one piece has satiated my desire to try something from Apiece Apart.

Have you guys tried their stuff and what did you think?
