Linenfox Anna Dress Review (and comparison to the Tradlands Nico Dress) {Updated March 2021}

Linenfox Review Anna Dress

I’ve been wearing this dress for awhile now but haven’t had a chance to yet review this sweet red Anna dress from Linenfox. I ordered this back in August and I got it in October of last year but because I’m currently in Hawaii I’ve been lucky enough to be able to enjoy wearing it all through this winter. If you’re not familiar with Linenfox, they are a small brand that makes linen clothing to order (thus reducing waste by not producing excess). They only use OEKO-tex certified high quality midweight linen (see where they fall in my ethical linen comparison review here). You can learn more about them here.

First off, I’m not one to wear bright colors much less red. But something about this color (called Watermelon) called out my name. I never thought I could pull of red but I have to say I’m really loving my first red dress. (A side note about this color of red: I think it works for me because it’s more of a jewel-toned red with lots of blue tones in it. When I first posted the top picture on Insta a reader asked me what Color Season I was. I had no idea what they were talking about but when I looked it up (here) I’m a Deep Winter and this red is the exact red they predicted would work for me. I have to say I’m a believer now in this simple little test.). {Edit: Ok I stand corrected, this is pink and not red lol. I guess I look good in pink 🤷🏻‍♀️}

Linenfox review Anna Dress

As for the washing instructions for this dress, it says to machine wash cold on the gentle cycle. I did just that and am happy to report there was no color bleeding (which is something I always worry about when washing something red).

Anyway I ordered this in a small and I think it fits perfectly. The length is right at the knees (I’m 5’4”). The slightly shorter torso length of the dress helps to make me look taller (and counteract my actually long torso length). The neckline is big enough that I don’t accidentally choke myself when I sit down, which happens to me in my Tradlands Nico dress that’s very similar to this one.

In fact these two dresses are so similar I decided to do a little side-by-side comparison of the two:

Tradlands Nico Dress Dupe

As you can see, the dresses when lined up are quite similar in shape and size. The minor differences in size are as follows (Linenfox dress in size small and Tradlands dress in size XS): Linenfox bust 20.25”, Tradlands bust 20”//LF waist 19.5”, T waist 20”//LF length 39”, T length 41”//LF torso 15”, T torso 15.5”. So the Linenfox dress is slightly shorter with a larger bust area but narrows slightly at the waist (which I think gives it a more flattering fit). The torso length for the Linenfox dress is shorter and the sleeves are a tad longer which I personally prefer. And like I mentioned above, I also like that the Linenfox neckhole is larger than the Tradlands ones.

Overall I prefer the fit of the Linenfox Anna dress. I also like that the Anna dress is 100% linen vs. the tencel/linen blend of the Tradlands Nico dress (this is just a preference for the feel of the fabric but both dresses are in theory biodegradable). I do appreciate that the Tradlands dress comes in a fun fabric pattern that is unique. But if you’re looking for a dress like the Nico but in one color then the Anna dress is a great option (and Linenfox have sooo many colors to choose from). Also the Anna dress costs about $100 less (the Nico now retails for $197 and I got the Anna dress for about $88—free shipping by both brands). And another good thing about the Anna dress from Linenfox? It’s still available (since it’s made to order) while Tradlands have sold out their stock to make room for their winter clothes (and I’m not sure if they’re bringing the Nico back) {March 2021 Update: they currently do have it back for Spring 2021 here}. So if you really want to try this style of dress in a really great linen fabric (of almost any color of your choosing) then I highly recommend getting this Anna dress from Linenfox. They currently have a 3-4 week lead time so you’re looking at a mid-March delivery, this could be just the spring dress you need!
