Linenfox Review: The Heavy Linen Juniper Jacket

Linenfox Review Heavy Linen Jacket

Oh boy is this review delayed. Sorry if anyone was waiting for since November, when I received this heavy linen jacket from Linenfox. TBH I haven’t worn this jacket all that much, until recently, thus the delay on writing this review. But since it’s finally warmed up enough to wear it more often, I feel like I’m finally qualified to write a fair review.

First let’s talk about Linenfox’s heavy linen which they released last year. Linenfox usually uses a 185g/m2 midweight linen for most of their clothing. This heavy linen is 340g/m2, which is the heaviest linen I’ve ever owned. For reference here is my guide of linen weights from other slow fashion brands like Only Child and Elizabeth Suzann. As you can see ES uses 241g/m2 linen. So this heavy linen from Linenfox is quite a bit heavier than all the rest and very substantial.

I got the jacket in a S/M size since that’s what I normally get from Linenfox. But this time I decided to ask for a custom length so that I wouldn’t have to go through the extra step of getting it hemmed. I guess that’s the great thing about slow fashion—you can get things customized. So I asked for it to be 3 inches shorter than their standard length, and I think I made the right call. With the shorter length it hits right above my knee (for reference I’m 5’4”).

I like the heaviness of this linen jacket since I can wear it most of the year here in California. In the winter I wore it layered over a sweater like in the picture above. The heavy linen is perfect for cold fall or spring weather if you live in colder climates. I like that the jacket has a dropped shoulder and easy front pockets. The craftsmanship is excellent as can be expected from Linenfox.

The only thing is I’m not sure I really like these kinds of oversized jackets. I’ve tried the Elizabeth Suzann Clyde jacket before (reviewed here), which I also didn’t love. I do like that the Linenfox jacket has a very simple collar compared to the Clyde jacket. And I also like that this jacket is way more affordable. Thus I’m willing to keep it in my closet and see how many more times I wear it. But tbh if it ends up just languishing in my closet, I’m pretty sure I’ll sell it.

In the meantime is there anything you guys want to know about this jacket or Linenfox’s heavy linen?

P.S. If you want to learn about Linenfox’s midweight linen see my review of their kimono top (aka ES Georgia dupe) or their wide leg pants.
