Hermes Regate Scarf Ring and Hermes Scarves Review
Right around the time I turned 40, I started noticing my neck wasn’t looking as great as it used to. I’m already genetically predisposed to neck rolls like a Sharpei (thanks Mom and Grandma lol), but I was also getting way more moles as well. And it probably doesn’t help that I never use sunscreen on my neck since I dislike that oily-neck feeling. But I realized if I didn’t do something about this, it would just get worse (uhh did you see that image of the 92 year old woman’s neck that was never protected with sunscreen—eek). So after going down a Diane Keaton scarf inspo Google wormhole I got a couple of scarves from Madewell and the RealReal. And in June I decided to go for a scarf ring from Hermes after watching a couple YouTube videos on tying scarves. And since it’s getting to be scarf season, I thought I’d take the time to review both the Hermes scarves and Hermes Regate ring.
First off, about the Hermes scarves: I opted for two 70cm silk scarves from the RealReal. I chose the 70cm size because the 90cm ones look so big. The 70cm is more than enough material for a neck scarf, and I felt the 90cm would be too overwhelming (that’s the size people can wear as a halter top if they so choose to). But I might try the 90cm out in the future and will update this review when I do. I already have one Hermes twilly from Fashionphile and that doesn’t really work as a neck scarf for me since I really want to be able to cover my neck. Also I opted for Hermes scarves because even though I can find silk scarves from other brands, I know that whenever I’m ready to part with these I can easily consign them back to theRealReal or Fashionphile. Currently I can’t say whether or not Hermes silk scarves are better than any other brand since I don’t have any other scarves to compare them to, but on the whole they’re made from fairly thick silk and work great for my purposes (to cover my neck and chest some).
As for the Regate scarf ring, I decided to purchase it directly from Hermes since the new price ($215) is the same, if not cheaper, than the used price (hello Fashionphile selling it for $265 😮). Plus I know for sure it is authentic this way. If you like the look of the Regate scarf ring but don’t care for resell value nor want to pay for the real deal, there are a ton of dupes out there as well.
I don’t do anything fancy with my scarf ring, just pass the two ends through. But if you want some inspiration on how to tie your scarf in some fancy ways, I found this youtube channel helpful.
Anyway I’m really enjoying wearing my scarves. I know they’re supposed to be dry cleaned but I usually just wash mine with the Laundress Delicate wash and hang dry. They’ve been my workhorses, especially on days when I’m out and the sun is blazing. I have also started wearing sunscreen on my neck (right now my favorite is Kinfield’s Daily Dew which doesn’t feel that greasy on the neck). But I look forward to growing old with my scarves and scarf ring 😂.
