What I Didn't Buy in July

What I Didn’t Buy

Since I was purposefully not looking to buy things, I don’t have a long list of things I didn’t buy. But instead here are the sales I would have looked at but didn’t because of No Buy July: the babaa sale, the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale, the Two Days Off sale, the Beklina sale, and the AtLand sale (because they always have dreamy stuff).

However some of the things that I might have purchased if not for this no buy challenge:

  • This Celine soft cube bag from Fashionphile: Yes I know I already have one (in the dark green color—review of the Celine soft cube bag here), but this neutral one is so dreamy. Plus if the soft cube bag has been one of my most used bags for the last 3 years, a second one is totally justifiable right…right?

  • Another ARQ bra: My original review of ARQ is here, but I’ve been wearing my wide strap bra every week and have been loving it. I wish I had more than one so I could start rotating them in and start phasing out my underwire bras. I’ll probably add this to my list of things to get after my shopping ban.

What I Bought (because I still bought non-closet and non-beauty items)

Tom’s Granola: So I don’t normally include food purchases in my “What I Bought” posts but since I’m not buying my usual things I thought I would mention (and focus) on all the other things I did buy, including this expensive gourmet granola handmade by the “King of Granola” himself (as deemed by his wife Eva Chen). I just love the Chen-Bannister family and want to support them, even if it means buying some granola (and I don’t even really like granola that much 😆, but that’s ok my husband does lol). And I have to admit, even though I’m not a granola person the Pina Colada granola that Tom made was mighty tasty and our family killed it within a week. Also Emi is now a huge fan of granola lol.

Tangie Shampoo Bar: I purchased this at a farmer’s market in LA, but I was traveling with some very old travel shampoo and could not stand how it smelled. So when I found this shampoo bar (like a bar of soap), I was willing to give it a try. And boy was I glad I did. I was skeptical at first of bar shampoo but I have to say it works just as well (if not better) than any liquid shampoo and it’s infinitely less wasteful (less packaging). I purchased the rose geranium version and I don’t think I’ll ever go back to the bottled stuff! Of course full review coming up soonish.

Bamboo toddler cups: I first bought 4 of these cups which I love because they’re not plastic. Well if a toddler throws them hard enough on a tiled floor they will crack. Emi is better now at not throwing them so I re-purchased 6 more. Now there’s more than enough, even if some of our toddler friends come to visit.

PACT toddler clothes (purchased with credit earned through my 20% off referral link-thank you for your support!): Emi is officially done with onsies 🥲 (it’s bittersweet), so that means we needed more toddler tees. My favorite are organic cotton ones from PACT because they’re super soft and super cute. The fact that they’re also made from pesticide-free organic cotton is just the frosting. You can read my review of PACT’s baby and toddler clothes here.

Plant from Trader Joe’s and plants from Etsy: The white fusion calathea has been on my wishlist for a long time and so when I saw it on Etsy for a good price I got that along with another wishlist item, the string of hearts. I haven’t purchased too many plants this year (unlike last year when I went over the top lol), so allowing myself to get a few more seems reasonable (especially to replace the ones that died during our stay in Hawaii). This is one expense though that know I have to be mindful of because I know how easily my plant purchasing can escalate (like it did in 2020).

And that’s it. Yep feeling pretty strong about this No Buy July (I think announcing it here and on Insta helped me stay strong). So I’ll be continuing with a No Buy August. Anyone down to join me?
