Quince Review: The Linen Shorts

Quince Review Linen Shorts

Last year, I was (and still am) a huge fan of Quince’s linen tank (Quince 100% organic linen tank review here). So when they released matching 100% organic linen shorts this year I jumped on them right away. And I have no regrets. In fact, once I ordered one pair, I immediately ordered two more pairs and now I have my all linen summer uniform.

First a note on sizing. I’m currently a size 6-8 on the bottom and find the medium fits perfectly. Since it’s an elastic waistband with a drawstring, I find the sizing to be relatively flexible. I’m wearing a medium in the “Driftwood” colored pants in the picture below and a large in the black linen in the photo above. I ended up getting the large in the black since when I went to reorder these shorts Quince was all out of the mediums. The large definitely fits a tad more oversized but I don’t mind (the elastic still fits firmly around my waist and there’s no danger of the shorts falling down). But if Quince gets more mediums back in stock I might get those too. In general I would say the shorts probably fit somewhere between TTS to slightly larger, and it really depends how you want these shorts to fit. I think they’re supposed to be more oversized so if you want a more fitted look, size down.

As for the linen quality, as I mentioned in my linen tank review, Quince uses excellent linen. Thanks to a reader, I’ve learned it’s 160 gsm, which means it’s ever so slightly thinner than the linen used by my favorite Lithuanian slow fashion brand Linenfox (and notPerfectlinen). You can see how the linen from all my favorite brands stack up here in this ethical linen guide. As for the driftwood color linen pants, they are 100% opaque which means you won’t be able to see my underwear (though most of my underwear are lighter colored). These shorts do tend to wrinkle pretty easily so if you’re the type of person that doesn’t like wrinkly linen these shorts might not be for you. As for me, I like the lived-in casual look of wrinkled linen and it doesn’t bother me. (Though I do find that I wash my driftwood linen shorts more since the wrinkles around the thighs are pretty bad after a couple wears—but I also have large thighs so this could just be a me problem. The black linen shorts don’t show the wrinkles as much.)

Overall, I really like the fit and feel of these shorts. As I get older, I find myself wanting longer shorts (but not Bermuda style shorts), and these Quince linen shorts fit the bill. Also I love that I have a couple pairs of go-to linen short since linen is the perfect summer fabric. It keeps you cool and also dries really fast (if you ever find your shorts getting wet). I wish I had these when I was in Hawaii since these are the perfect beach shorts. And for $30 I think these are definitely worth their value considering the great linen quality!
