What I Bought in April

Something bought, gifted, and returned

Something bought, gifted, and returned

It seemed like I bought a lot this month since I decided to add in my beauty/skin care re-purchases. But overall I only bought one new item for my closet (ok well it was a two piece set). I did however return quite a few things.

What I Bought

UBeauty Resurfacing Compound: This was a reorder. The smaller 15ml size lasts me just about 3 months, so I decided to go for the bigger 30ml size for a slightly better value.

skinSALVATION order: This is another reorder from my favorite POC women-owned local (as in SF) beauty line. I’m devoted to their Charcoal cleanser (I’ve been reordering this for almost 10 years I think) and I loved the new mandelic toner I tried out from them in my last order. Sadly they are sold out of that one so I’m going to try this other mandelic toner. Also my new favorite facial sunscreen comes from their shop.

Augustinus Bader Rich Cream reorder: Well I’ve finally found the place to get my AB rich cream, the actual AB website. Their loyalty program is amazing and I was able to get a free lip balm with this order. Also this is the first time I’ll be trying their new formulation and so will of course update my AB rich cream review once I’ve given it a good try.

Only Child Cotton jumpsuit and Ali Golden wide-leg pants from eBay: These were kind of impulse purchases, but how could I pass up an OC jumpsuit for $38 and Ali Golden pants for $15. Luckily both items fit and I love how they look!

For Days Upcycled Rib top (pictured top) and bottom: I’m not sure how I stumbled on this brand on Insta but I was really curious about their upcycled rib top and bottoms. The rib fabric is a blend of organic cotton, recycled cotton and recycled polyester. For Days also tries to be “zero waste” by closing the loop on their items by taking back their clothes. But I’m not sure how much of this is marketing vs. doing real good considering they work with a recycling partner that resells the clothes or turns them into scrap/rags.

Pact Kids Clothing: Since Emi is growing so fast, I decided to take advantage of Pact’s Earth Day Sale to buy all her favorites in the next size up. I repurchased these super thick and durable hoodies and these soft fun tees. I’m got her a dress, leggings, and short shorts to try. I’ve reviewed Pact’s babies and kids clothing here and you can get 20% off your first purchase with my referral link (thanks to all those who support my blog with your clicks!).

What I Was Gifted

Porter Blue Apparel Rebel Jeans: When this SF-brand reached out to ask if I wanted to try one of their jeans I said sure because if you can’t tell, I’m on a jeans kick right now (I talk more about it below). This brand only had 3 different styles to choose from but I admire their commitment to ethical and sustainable jeans manufacturing.

What I Resisted

Causa dress and Chira Blouse from Osei-duro: I first heard of this brand by entering one of those multi-brand Insta giveaways. But when I checked their stuff out I was impressed with their ethics (fairly employing Ghanian women to make their clothes). If you’re a fan of Ulla Johnson then some of their stuff might be up your alley.

What I Returned

This Chanel 2.55 Reissue Bag: I had always wanted to own a Reissue Chanel flap bag ever since my interest in Chanel (this is the style that Coco Chanel originally designed, while the CC classic flap bags are a Karl Lagerfeld design). I once owned the Jumbo classic Chanel and sold it (which I regret to this day), so I thought I’d be over the moon if I bought the Chanel bag dreams from my youth . Well long story short I wasn’t, and rather I was quite conflicted (if you voted on my Insta stories, thank you!). Anyway I ended up returning it, with some very mixed feelings, which I went to in-depth in a Chanel Reissue review coming up.

Everlane Curvy 90’s Cheeky Jeans: Since I still have some credit left in my account from past referrals, I wanted to use what I had earned to see if these Everlane jeans could be my next mom jeans obsession (the first one being the Agolde ones that are just a tad too tight for me). Well since you’re seeing them listed in this section here you can safely assume they didn’t work out. Everlane jeans rarely do for me. I might try to write up a short review of them if you guys are interested.

Shopbop Sale Order: I tried on a bunch of things during Shopbop’s sales event. As I mentioned before I was looking to size up on the Agolde 90’s jeans and then wanted to try out some other styles of jeans as well. Well most of the jeans didn’t work out (I might try to do a quick try-on review). But man I had forgotten how hard it is to find those “perfect” jeans. I also returned the light colored Birkenstocks because even though I loved how they looked, the nubuck leather was stiff as a board and I just want comfortable Birks (not ones I have to break in).
