Have you guys heard of LED light therapy for your skin? Well I was once an early adopter of these at-home LED light tools, and I had an early version of an LED wand like this LightStim for acne. But I never could keep it up because it required doing it in front of a mirror and moving the wand around to various spots on the face (because I’ve always had a lot of spots lol). But Jennifer Fisher recommended one of these full face LED Light Therapy Face Masks because it does your whole face in one sitting, and I knew I wanted to try one out. I decided to go with this one since it has great reviews on Amazon (4.3 stars out of 1700+ reviews). And you guys I was not disappointed.
In fact I will go so far as to say, above anything else you get for your skin and above anything else that I’ve recommended thus far (like the AB cream or Ubeauty RC), GET THIS SKIN TOOL! And yes, it did warrant the all-caps yelling. Seriously, if you use this LED face mask everyday for at least two weeks (for 15-20 minutes) you will see a difference. I’m so hooked I use it twice a day for 15-20 minutes, whenever I get a chance to lay down. Since having this LED mask I’ve only had two zits thanks (ie maskne), which is a vast improvement to how it was. And both times the pimples went down fast, and the scarring has disappeared in record time. I am 100% a believer in this LED mask.
So I use both the red light and blue light separately. The blue light kills acne-causing bacteria and reduces the activity of the sebaceous glands, lessing the oil that can cause pores to clog. And then I separately use the red light to help stimulate collagen production, which lessens the appearance of wrinkles. I got the specific details of this here, at the Harvard School of Public Health website. The mask comes with other colors, which I’m not too sure about since the effects of those colors are not as known. I’ve been experimenting with the dark green led light, which is supposed to reduce redness, but I can’t say I notice a whole lot of difference. But red and blue LED light therapy is tried and true, so I stick with those colors consistently.
Also this being a cheap version of the fancy LED face masks, it’s not going to be perfect. First of all it has to be plugged into a wall, so you need to be laying down near an outlet (not so hard usually, since outlets are by the bed). The mask comes with an elastic strap, but don’t use it. In fact don’t even bothering putting it on the mask (mine came separately). You don’t need the elastic straps and instead it’ll cause way too much pressure on your face (especially around the eye sockets). I usually lay the LED mask on my face and then hold it at the bottom so it’s slightly raised (I don’t want the mask to be completely flush against my skin since I usually have my AB rich cream underneath). But don’t hold it by the plug but rather the actual mask itself to prevent it from getting glitchy. And lastly when using this mask don’t have your eyes open since that can possibly cause damage to your eyes. I usually just close my eyes and listen to a podcast (currently I’ve been listening to meditation ones and it’s been a lovely practice of getting my meditation time in).
Anyway I’m hooked. I do this almost everyday. My goal was to do it 5 times a week in my habit tracker, but I don’t even need to track it anymore because it’s a habit I look forward to doing. And I’ve seen the changes in my skin after using it daily for the last several weeks. I definitely break out less and overall my skin has been looking smoother. Anyway I’m not one to usually recommend these types of tools because if you don’t use it, it’s basically become more wasted unrecyclable plastic. But I definitely recommend this LED therapy face mask and I think if you use it consistently, will see a change in your skin as well.
P.S. If you decide to do this in a dark room you may want to warn your significant other or roommate because you might scare the bejeezus out of them like I did lol.
