During stressful times, I fall back to my my favorite escape/brain-numbing habit: TV. And well, in general my screen time has gone way up. So I thought I might as well make some recommendations so it’s not a complete waste of time 😆. Here are some of the things I’ve enjoyed watching:
Wanda Vision (on Disney+): I’ve always found the Marvel movies to be good entertainment but I especially like this series because of the TV sitcom genres done from the 50’s to early aughts. Also I love Kathryn Hahn and I think she’s very underrated (have you guys seen her in I Love Dick on Amazon—so good).
Margaret Atwood Documentary (on Hulu): I love watching documentaries about artist and authors because it’s a peek into the lives of the gifted/artistic which is something I would love to be 😆.
Murder Among the Mormons (Netflix): This 3-part true-crime documentary is super bingeable and I couldn’t stop watching.
One Night in Miami (Amazon Prime): This movie is based on true events of a night where Malcolm X, Mohammed Ali, Sam Cooke, and Jim Brown met for one night (it’s unfathomable for such famous people to have a small private party like this these days). It’s based on a play, so it’s heavy on the dialogue (but very thought provoking dialogue). I learned a lot from this movie and it’s a good reminder of their fight for equality in the 60’s and the work still left to do.
Nomadland (Hulu): I guess this movie about van-life for retirees is especially interesting to me since it talks about RV life. But it also showcases the reality that a lot of older people can’t afford to retire comfortably in the US. This was especially true during and after the Great Recession when many lost their retirement savings.
The Map of Tiny Perfect Things (Amazon Prime): A teen Groundhog Day movie (ie time loop). It was cute and a fun watch.
Audrey (on Netflix): I’ve always been an Audrey Hepburn fan since watching Roman Holiday with my mom. And I love this documentary about her life, with interviews with friends and family along with her own interviews in both English and French. It’s so well done.
What are some of the things you guys have been watching and would recommend?
P.S. And yes I know I have access to a lot of streaming platforms. But in my defense I got Hulu and Disney+ for free with Verizon.
