What I Bought in July
Well guess my low-spend trend was slightly short-lived. I ended up purchasing quite a few things in July and many of them on impulse (oops >.<). I decided to break it down here by category so it looks more manageable lol. Also I’m no longer receiving gifts from any brand (and for the foreseeable future) so I’m currently omitting that category.
What I Bought
For my closet:
Babaa cardigan no18 Mini natural: I finally bought a babaa cardigan after years of waffling about it and telling myself I didn’t need it. It was on sale this month and I finally decided to bite the bullet.
Tres cher granny chain for masks: I impulse purchased these after seeing them on Instagram, but I have to say they’re totally worth it. It allows me to take off my mask easily and keep it accessible. It’s practical and granny chic lol.
Vintage jute beach bag from eBay (pictured above the the cardigan): I was influenced by Andrea when I got this bag. I just happened to see this pink version when browsing for used beach bags on ebay and jumped on it. This was the first of three bag purchases this month *facepalm*
Mansur Gavriel mini travel crossbody in navy: I’ve had my eye on this bag for awhile now, after seeing a friend carry it. It was on sale for $400 less so I decided to give it a try.
Ree Projects mini Helene bag in caramel: I first saw this bag over on Insta and fell in love with it’s shape. Ree Projects is an Amsterdam-based brand (but made in Italy) by BIWOC designer Desiree Kleinen. Of course review to follow once I use it more.
Skincare:
U Beauty resurfacing compound trial size: I had some free samples (that I signed up to receive) and since that ran out I decided to purchase their trial size for $38. I first saw this via Jennifer Fisher (who also turned me onto Augustinus Bader cream), and I have to say she knows her beauty products. I’ll do a full review of it, but so far I like it.
For the home:
Bambu bamboo cooking utensils and tongs: Needed some new cooking utensils and decided to try out bamboo over plastic. I love them!
Wild at Home by Hilton Carter: I purchased this book about 3 weeks ago from a Black-owned bookstore in LA. I purposely decided to go out of my way to do it (their web ordering system is terrible and I dislike putting credit card info in Web 1.0 websites), and I’m sad to say I regret it because I still don’t have my book. Not gonna lie, I wish I had ordered it on Amazon.
Art prints by MKoby: I got this Pride print and Monstera print from the talented Melissa over on Etsy. I love them!
For Emi:
The Nugget: We got this play couch for Emi after seeing it a friends house. Emi loves to jump on the couch and bed but we’re always worried about her falling off (which has happened before). So this play couch will be something she can jump on safely. It’s also a temporary bed for us. It’s manufactured in North Carolina from a brand that pays fair wages. We have yet to get it but of course I’ll be doing a full review of it on the blog!
PACT tees and shorts: After writing my review of PACT clothing for kids, I decided to get more in the next size up. Thanks again to all of you guys who support the blog by clicking my links!
What I Returned
Since I had a couple returns this month, I thought it might be worth mentioning.
Tabitha Simmons Kittie flats: I was pretty on the fence about these flats because they’re uncomfortable and I have no place to wear them to. But I got them for a really good price on the Real Real and they were brand new. But a quick poll on Insta stories helped me decide to return them (thanks guys for keeping me from buyers remorse lol).
Celine Large Trio bag from Fashionphile: I was thinking a large trio would be the perfect coronavirus pandemic purse since I could put all the items I need to use when I go out in one pouch and all other items in a different pouch. Thus, just contaminating and having to clean the items in one pouch (as opposed to having to rifle through all my stuff in one big compartment and then having to sanitize all of it). But the one I got from Fashionphile was very very worn. I would still love to get a large Celine trio (I’ve owned a small trio in the past and ended up selling it because it was too small for me). But I’ll wait until I see one in better condition but still a good price.
What I Sold
I’m currently slowing selling through my stash of Everlane items. I probably had too many Everlane items to begin with. I still have plenty of Everlane items I consistently wear so I’ll be keeping those. Grechen was the first to call it (back in 2017!) and now I think other ethical fashion bloggers are seeing the problems with Everlane and hopefully acting on it (and actually the New York Times just wrote an article about it here).
