Ok so I kind of went overboard on the buying in January. I really don’t know where my willpower went. As I mentioned over the weekend I think it was a combo of sales and too much social media 🤦🏻♀️. But I’m definitely planning to do some low-buy months coming up to make up for it.
What I Bought
Mansur Gavriel Mini Protea bag: I first talked about this bag in June of 2019 and here we are in January 2021 and I finally bought the bag! I got it brand new from the MG sale for $120 less. Sadly my first impression of the bag wasn’t great, but I warmed up to it a bit when I started using it. But I have to say right now the cons outweigh the pros.
Mejuri dome ring: I was inspired by a picture on Instagram (I know I know I’m so easily influenced 😆😑) but I wanted a bold ring in my collection. All my life I’ve pretty much just worn dainty jewelry and I just wanted something different. I probably should have waited to purchase it on a special occasion (which I like to do since it makes jewelry more meaningful) but for $60 it wasn’t that much of an investment. I also sold a different Mejuri ring on eBay so that helped justify the purchase lol. Anyway I’m so glad I finally bought it after admiring it for so long because it was 100% worth it. I am in love with this chunky ring, and it feels so luxurious and hefty even though it’s not solid gold. Anyway I added a brief review of it on my Mejuri review blog post (as an update on the bottom of that post).
Beklina Ribbed Clog Open Toe in black and buff: After writing my Beklina criss cross platform shoe review, I ended up scrolling through their sale section and found these open toe clogs. These clogs were the shoes I had originally wanted from them but weren’t on sale when I made my first Beklina purchase. Well after polling you guys about these shoes on Insta, I couldn’t stop thinking about both colors. So I went ahead and got both (with the sale on sale price they came out to $133 each—which is about half price from the original $270). I basically got two for the price of one and I have to say I don’t regret my decision. Both colors are great and the shoe is so versatile. I got them a whole size bigger than my normal (as advised on their site) and am super happy about how the 9s fit.
Two Days Off Safia Midi Skirt: Thanks to those of you who purchased something from TDO with my referral link, I had a bit of site credit burning a hole in my pocket lol. And since TDO still had their site-wide sale going on, I was able to get this Safia linen skirt for a good price. As usual I was not disappointed! Full review to come soon!
Quince Mongolian Baby Cashmere Sweater and Quince Pearl Stud Earrings (with credit from referrals—thank you for your support guys!): Ok so I know I said no more sweaters but when this sweater made from from the coats of baby goats (no baby goats were harmed in the making of it), I just had to know what that felt like. It’s double the price of the original Quince cashmere sweater so I wondered if it really is worth it. I’ll let you know in a review coming soon! And the review of the Quince pearl earring studs are here.
Ichi Antiquities Wide Leg Culottes: I got this one off of eBay at a really good price (plus I had some ebay bucks to use) so I thought it would be worth it to try it out. Not sure I could rock the wide leg culottes look but then again I wouldn’t know until I tried. Happy to report I looooove them and so glad I took that chance!
Hereu Bombon L Bag: After the disappointment with the Mansur Gavriel mini Protea bag above, I decided to go for the other bag that I had wanted (my insta poll pictured below). I gotta say 46% of you guys were right and the Hereu bag is a much better bag. In a way, I’m glad I got to try both so I know definitively which one I prefer, even though I’ll probably lose some money when reselling the MG bag. I think this might be my last MG bag for a bit since this last bag has definitely soured me on them.
Agolde 90’s jeans: Aaand one more purchase right before the month ended. I got these secondhand from the lovely Andrea from Seasons+Salt. I was very lucky to see that she was selling these on her poshmark site and she was nice enough to sell them to me outside of the platform (I’m surprisingly not a poshmark user—I know I’m missing out but at the same time I’m afraid of how much more I would be spending a month if I shopped there too lol). Anyway they came in yesterday and I loooove them (though they definitely need to be hemmed up a bit). Thanks Andrea for selling me your amazing jeans!
What I Was Gifted:
Merit Beauty Eyebrow Gel and Mascara (gifted in exchange for an Insta post): Ok I know I’ve disapproved of eyebrow gel in the past (for example after reviewing the Glossier boy brow), but I hadn’t purchased any brow product since then and my Shu Uemura brow pencil was getting to be a little nubbin. So when Merit (a new clean beauty line from Katherine Powers of Who What Wear fame) asked if I wanted to try some products for free I said yes (I also got the mascara since I was running out). I don’t plan on doing a full review for them so I’ll just do a mini one here. I like the eyebrow gel because it’s suuuper subtle. If you’re looking for boy brow thickness this ain’t for you. But if you want just a hint of darker brows and for them to combed just so, this fits the bill. Would I purchase? Probably not because like I said I don’t really want to be adding more plastic in landfills just for the sake of some eyebrow vanity (I’ll just repurchase my Shu eyebrow pencil that lasts me, no joke, about 8 years and at the end can biodegrade—though unfortunately the plastic pencil cap it comes with does not). As for the mascara, it’s also on the thin side. No clumps but also very little thickening. It give you a “your lashes but slightly better” look and you can’t really tell I’m wearing mascara. Would I purchase? Probably not since when I wear mascara I want my lashes to be noticeably thicker (especially if I’m going to take the time to put it on and then take it off). But I’m glad to get some free items I will use (and promise to use up).
