I’ve been wearing this Quince Washable Silk Skirt for awhile now so I thought it’s about time to give it a fair review. I was first attracted to this skirt because it reminded me of the Vetta Reversible Satin Midi skirt. I saw many bloggers rocking their (gifted) Vetta skirts, like Andrea and Paige and I loved the look of the skirt. But I’m sorry, I’m not spending $120 on a polyester skirt even if it’s from recycled plastic (also I’m not a fan of the cheetah print and just prefer plain ‘ole black anyway). So when I saw this 100% silk version for $60 on Quince, I knew I had to try it.

First a note on sizing: I got this in a medium and it’s the perfect fit. I’m 5’4” and usually a size 6 on the bottom. But the sizing on this skirt is quite forgiving since the waistband is elastic—and it’s a nice and thick elastic yet not too tight. I also tend to wear the skirt a little higher up, around my natural waist, since I like to wear it with more cropped tops and sweaters. Plus by wearing it higher up, the skirt becomes a true midi length for my 5’4” frame. I love that the skirt is more fitted around the hips but flares out a bit near the bottom. It creates the perfect drape and swish when you’re walking. The little flare also prevents VPL since the skirt isn’t clinging to your frame/butt (though if you bend over and are wearing kind of thick underwear you might see some VPL).

As for the silk quality, it’s a 19 momme weight Mulberry silk. They usually say mulberry silk is the most luxe and smooth (and it’s the type used for those silk pillowcases). For a little refresher on what silk momme weights mean check out my silk review post from 2015. Quince’s 19mm silk is better than anything Everlane’s ever used (16mm) and closer to vintage Grana (they used to make items with 22-25mm). I think for this skirt though 19mm is a more than adequate weight (at least for the black and navy—not sure if the lighter colored silk skirt is opaque enough at this weight since I didn’t order it). At this momme weight I found that the skirt doesn’t wrinkle too easily even after wearing it for most of the day (though you will want to steam out the wrinkles when you first get it since it will come folded).
And yes this skirt is machine washable. I usually wash all my dark silks together inside out, with each item in their own mesh laundry bag with the Laundress Delicate Wash. Just wash on cold and on the delicate cycle, hang dry and you’re good!
Anyway if you’re interested in trying this skirt, they currently have it in stock. As for me, I can’t wait to style it many new ways this year! And you can read all my other Quince reviews here.
