Ecovacs Deebot T30S Combo Robot Review
I first found out about Ecovac and their line of vacuum and mopping robots through a Japanese Youtube influencer about a year ago. And ever since then I’ve wanted one because I dislike dirty floors but also dislike mopping. We’ve had a Roomba for 15 years (yes it lasted that long but we did have to buy new batteries for it after about 7 years). And even though it still works, we thought we would upgrade (and give the Roomba to my mom lol). So was the Ecovac Deebot T30S Combo worth it?
That’s a big YES.
First off, before purchasing this I did a bit of research on mopping+vacuuming robots and the two of the main brands I found myself comparing were Ecovac and Roborock. Both brands make good products that rate well but I decided to go with Ecovac since the main pro is that it’s better at cleaning. The drawback to Ecovac is usually their app/software and mapping. Roborock is stronger on that front. However, the cleaning ability was the clincher for me.
Once having decided on the Ecovac, I debated between the T30S (which is their newest model) and the Omni X2 (which is their older but top-of-the-line model). After watching a couple YouTube videos on this (here and here), I decided to go with the T30S since the newer model pretty much had all the same features as the older but more expensive X2. And I wasn’t a fan of the square-ish edges of the X2. Plus for the same price, the T30S that I got also comes with a handheld vacuum (that self-empties into the same vacuum bag as the Deebot) since it’s the combo version.
And I have to say I’m very happy with the T30S. Once I mapped my house (which it does a pretty good job doing), I didn’t find any issues with the software or the bot getting lost. [Side note: I did have to map it twice since the first time it missed one of the side bathrooms.] I don’t know if Ecovac upgraded their software or if the people making complaints didn’t do the mapping, but I had no issues with the bot not being able to get back to it’s base once it’s on the map. So for me, the software was perfectly fine.
Also it cleans very well, as long as you set the suction power to strong (at the lowest it doesn’t do as good of a job). There’s even one more setting above that but I don’t want to use up the battery too early into each cleaning session (at this setting I find it can run for almost two hours). You also have the option to do one or two cleaning passes and change the cleaning speed. There are also options to have vacuum only, or vacuum and then mop. But I prefer to do vacuum and mop at the same time to save time. And if you have rugs in the room, the Deebot can detect it and raise the mop pads so that it only vacuums (and the rugs do not get wet). Lastly, when the Deebot mops the floors they do get slightly damp, but it dries quickly (within a couple minutes).
There are a ton of functions and settings on the app, and I haven’t explored them all. I mostly use it to tell Deebot to clean a room or two whenever we’re not there (even though the Deebot is quieter than the Roomba, it still makes noise which my family can’t ignore—I on the other hand can totally tune it out.). As of this review I haven’t tried the scheduling feature yet since our schedule isn’t really regular enough for that (but of course I will update this review when I do).
You can also shop through the app, and I purchased the floor extension (so that I can vacuum the floor with the handheld vaccum that comes with my combo version). They have occasional sales in the app shop, and you can earn discounts by earning points through the app (whenever you try something new it rewards you with 100 points, which is like $1). So overall I was able to save $45 on the floor extension, which I thought was a pretty great deal. You can also buy replacement vacuum bags and mop heads on the app shop.
The only negative about this Deebot is that it does take a long time to clean and it runs out of battery and clean water before it can finish cleaning my house. I have about a 2300 sq ft home and it can do about a third of it (for about an hour and a half) before it needs to go back to recharge. That means I have to run it three times over two days if I want to fully clean the house. I also have to refill the clean water and empty the dirty water at least two times as well. Oh, and even though the onboard Lidar is great at detecting big things (it never bangs into anything unlike my old Roomba), it won’t be able to detect cords so yes, sometimes those can get tangled up inside. However unlike my old Roomba, it somehow doesn’t mangle up the cords so it’s easy to take out (and it stops fairly quickly once something gets tangled).
But overall I’m super happy with this vacuum and mopping robot and my floors are so much cleaner these days because of it!
