Augustinus Bader Reviews: The Hand Treatment and the Shampoo {August 2022 Update}
You might already know I’m a long time fan of the Augustinus Bader Rich Cream and Lip Balm, so when I had some extra AB credit from joining and recommending their online club I decided to try out their Hand Treatment and Shampoo. So here’s a quick review of what I think of each.
The Hand Treatment
I like this hand lotion. It absorbs easily into the skin and the lotion texture is neither greasy nor tacky. But I don’t know if I’ve seen any major differences to the skin on my hands after using it for about a month. Maybe my skin is a bit softer? But I would say it’s just as good as any other hand lotion on the market. Would I go out and spend $50 on this small 50ml tube of hand lotion though? Probably not. You’d probably be better off using sunscreen daily on the back of your hands and buying any old hand lotion.
The Shampoo
This is probably the first item from Augustinus Bader that I don’t like. But a short disclaimer here: I have thin hair and I only like to wash my hair every other day. I also don’t have a lot of damage to my hair since I hardly ever use heat to style it. So maybe if you have a different hair texture, washing routine or styling routine, you might have different results. But as for me, whenever I used this shampoo my hair would be so greasy after a day that I felt like I needed to wash everyday. Also the shampoo left my hair fairly limp. I’m going to try to finish the rest of the shampoo (since it’s a $55 bottle after all), but it requires me to wash my hair more often. And we’ll see if it actually does anything for my hair (will I grow more, will my existing hair be thicker?).
{March 2022 update: so I finished the bottle just at the start of March. After about a week of use, my hair got used to the shampoo I think because it stopped being so greasy and my hair was less limp. However when I try to alternate between this shampoo and my usual bar shampoo (talk about going from high end to low end lol), I found that after using the AB shampoo it would be greasy again. So I think if you’re going to use it, just stick with it. As for hair growth and thickness? I can’t say I notice a difference. Thus I won’t be repurchasing this $55 bottle of shampoo.}
{August 2022 Update: I had been using the Nioxin shampoo and conditioner which is meant to help with thinning hair but I found that it did nothing (my thinning actually looks a bit worse but I’m not sure if that’s the shampoo or if its because it did nothing and I was thinning anyway). Thus I decided to go back to the AB shampoo even though it’s quite a bit more expensive. But at leas the AB shampoo did seem to help with the thinning and when I was using it my bald spot wasn’t quite as noticeable. I’ll let you know what I think after my second try with the AB shampoo.}
Anyway that’s all I have to say about these two products for now. My advice is to save your pennies and go for the AB Rich Cream (review here) or lip balm (review here).
