Everlane Review: The Soft Day Tote (c/o)
Thank you to Everlane for being oh-so patient about my backlog of reviews seeing as how I was gifted this item back in October. But I also wanted to use it on a daily basis to give it a fair review, and I only just recently switched to using totes as an everyday bag (finally hit mom bag status).
If you’ve been following this blog for awhile you know that I’ve reviewed a lot of different totes from several brands. And one of my most popular reviews is the one I did comparing the Madewell Transport tote to Cuyana’s Classic tote. I’ve also reviewed Mansur Gavriel’s tote and Everlane’s Day Market Tote. On the higher end of the spectrum (in terms of price), I’ve also reviewed the Goyard St. Louis Tote and the Celine Small Cabas Phantom. So you can say I’m totes a tote expert lol.
So believe me when I say that Everlane’s Soft Day Tote is pretty darn good. If you love unstructured totes this one is for you. The leather is super smooshy and yummy, but quite durable as well since it has that pebbled texture. The inside is super spacious, with a flat pocket on the inside. There’s no lining but the inside is smooth and there’s no leather flaking off (which sometimes happens to some poorly made leather bags).
This bag does not stand up on its own so I use a bag organizer (reviewed here) to help keep its structure. When I compare this to all the totes I’ve had in the past, I would say that Everlane’s Soft Day Tote is very similar to Cuyana’s Classic Tote. Both are made from the same kind of soft grained leather and the sizes are about the same as well. The only real difference is that the Cuyana one has a zippered pocket on the inside while the Everlane one does not. Also the Cuyana tote comes in a lot of different colors while Everlane seems to only have this cognac color left (they also came in black but it looks like it’s sold out).

So the big question: would I get Everlane’s Soft Day tote or the Day Square Tote (or Day Market Tote)? I think for me, I personally prefer the Day Square/Market Tote because I prefer the stiff leather over the soft leather. Like I said, the soft leather of this tote makes it just like Cuyana’s and it’s not something new. But the thin, lightweight stiff leather of the Day Square Tote is something I haven’t seen any other brand make. Plus I really like a tote that can stand up on its own without a bag organizer. But if you like a soft leather tote, where the leather can fold in a bit if the bag is half-empty, then this Soft Day Tote is pretty darn nice.
What do you guys prefer: a tote with soft leather or stiff leather?
